Former professional soccer player Tarik Yassin has indicated he’ll play for Ballyhaunis Town in the 2024 Mayo League season.
The 34-year-old Moroccan, who recently relocated to Ballyhaunis with his family, was formerly a player with two Middle Eastern clubs. One of them is Abu Dhabi-based Al Wahda FC which competes in the UAE Pro League. He’s also played for Saudi based club Sitani and over a number of years on the professional circuit met major figures like Diego Maradona while playing tournaments in the Middle East and Europe.
“I am ready to do anything I can to help Ballyhaunis Town progress and develop,” said Tariq, who is currently studying but hopes to establish a business in Ireland.
“It is a country of much opportunity,” he added. He also said he plans to invite talent scout associates from his playing days to Ireland to check out local players with potential.
Middle Eastern petro-states have grown in prominence across the world of professional soccer through purchases of prominent European clubs like Manchester City. Legendary Portuguese player Christiano Ronaldo currently plays for Saudi football club Al-Ittihad.
