Election candidate welcomes major project at Ballina Quay

Election candidate Willie Nolan has described the project as one of the largest of its type to take place in Ballina.
A Mayo election candidate has welcomed an exciting development on the Creggs Road in Ballina.
Work is due to commence in February on an Active Travel project in the town. The project will be delivered by Mayo County Council.
“This will be the largest project of its type to take place in Ballina for some time,” said Willie Nolan, a resident in the area and Independent local election candidate.
Once completed, the project will enable young children to walk and cycle to the Quay National School in safety.
Residents groups, the Quay National School Parents' Association, and the local rugby club are among those who have engaged with the local authority on the project. The council acquired the necessary land from a local landowner.
“There has been great collaboration,” explained Mr Nolan.
New footpaths will be put in place following excavation works with new fencing also to be put in place. Pedestrian crossings will also be introduced. New lighting and lighting upgrades are part of the plans and resurfacing works will take place.
“We are trying to encourage young children to be able to walk and cycle to work safely,” said Mr Nolan.
A Fianna Fáil member of Ballina Town Council from 1999 to its disbandment in 2013, Mr Nolan hopes to gain a seat on Mayo County Council in next June's local elections.
