Award-winning Claremorris Musical Society returns to the stage at the local Town Hall Theatre from January 31st to February 4th for five exhilarating performances of the Broadway and West End hit musical comedy .
The highly-regarded musical group is thrilled to be returning to the stage with this West of Ireland premiere - another high-energy and freakishly funny show! The society’s last production, the Dolly Parton classic , got tremendous feedback and went down a storm with the audiences who took to their feet each night to show their appreciation back in January 2023.
The current cast has been tirelessly rehearsing since roles were filled following auditions for in September last. The highly talented and experienced production team of director Donna Ruane, musical director, Deirdre Lee, and choreographer Claudia O’Sullivan, know exactly how to get the best from the cast and they are blessed with an enthusiastic group of committed and talented society members.
Claremorris Musical Society is continuously aiming to grow and enhance the group and this is its 17th production. Over the years, this society has been recognised nationally by the Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) with multiple awards and nominations in the fields of Best Ensemble, Best Actress, Best Comedian/Comedienne, Best Stage Management, Best Supporting Actor/Actress, Best Singer and Best Musical Director. The society is always looking for new members and every year loves to welcome new friends to the group with a mutual love for musical theatre. This year has been no different and audiences will be thrilled to see some new faces along with more familiar ones too. The principal roles this year will be performed by David Alexander (Frederick Frankenstein), Mervyn Fahy (Igor) Nicole Scott (Inga), Vivienne Lee (Frau Blücher), Mary Dempsey (Elizabeth), Ger Scott (Inspector Kemp), Enda Mulchrone (The Monster) and Ronan Egan (Harold the Hermit), all of whom have a wealth of stage experience.
Written by the comedy genius Mel Brooks, this hilarious take on the classic monster tale combines zany antics, a witty script, fabulous musical numbers and high-energy comedy performances for one unforgettable, adventure in Transylvania!
follows the story of brilliant brain surgeon Frederick Frankenstein, the grandson of the infamous Dr Victor Frankenstein. When Frederick inherits his grandfather’s castle in Transylvania, he becomes drawn into the world of mad science and reanimation. With the help of a quirky cast of characters, including Igor, Inga, and Frau Blücher, Frederick attempts to bring a creature to life in the form of his famous ‘Monster’ and navigate the challenges that ensue. Eventually, of course, the Monster escapes with hilarious consequences!
Alongside a musical score filled with the richness of the Ritz, this is a feast for the senses. Without a doubt, this show is scientifically proven to be monstrously good entertainment!
