Captivating new piece of theatre is coming to Ballina
This visual feast with an original soundtrack will be performed, for one night only, at Ballina Arts Centre, on July 3rd.
‘Between Earth & Sky’ is a captivating new piece of theatre from Undercurrent Performance, which includes stunning large-scale projections, breath-taking aerial acrobatics, poignant dance, and real-life tales told from the heart.
This visual feast with an original soundtrack will be performed, for one night only, at Ballina Arts Centre, on July 3rd.
The lives and dreams of young and older woman come together and, as their paths converge, they are awakened to harsh realities, face fears, and, under the watchful eye of a mythical matriarch, navigate a maze of patriarchal and normative controls. Discovering connection, they find the strength to journey on towards their own unique and unbridled feminine power.
This groundbreaking piece of theatre addresses experiences of hypervisibility for young and older women, including able and disabled women, and communicates an important message, told by a remarkable cast. The show features a unique weave of spoken word and image, with Irish sign language, creating a dynamic new form of theatre with embedded access.
This new work from Undercurrent is directed by Kate Wilson and performed by Robin Cara, Isolde Ó’Brolcháin Carmody, Lianne Quigley, Darren Byrne, and Jenny Tufts. The original soundtrack is played live by creator Aoife Hammond, and the piece includes visual design and projections by Milo Cummins, lighting and prop design by Michael Cummins, and dramaturgy by Jean Marie Perinetti. Irish Sign Language is integral to the performance.
Undercurrent Performance, based in County Leitrim, makes connectivity, diversity, and inclusivity the heart of its practice. The company uniquely integrate diverse performers, celebrating different experiences of mobility and cultural backgrounds in the creation of visually dynamic performances.
