Ballina 'B' flying high in League One

There was no Elverys Sports Super League action due to the Mayo League’s encounter Donegal League in the FAI Oscar Traynor Cup quarter-final but there was still plenty of action across the CastleCourt Hotel Premier League, Killeen Sports Ground League One and McDonnell Construction League Two, even with a raft of postponements last Sunday due to the inclement weather.
On Saturday, the battle of two sides relegated from the Super League last season, Claremorris and Crossmolina went the way off the Deel men as strikes from Martin Deacy and Oisin Deane secured a 2-0 win away in Claremorris.
Ballyglass picked up their first win of the season after defeating Straide & Foxford United 2-0. Dean O’Malley broke the deadlock on 23 minutes with a brilliant free-kick and Oisin Moran made sure of the three points in the second half.
The only game on Sunday was between Kilmore and Ballyheane ‘B’ in what already could be a pivotal game for survival and Guilherme De Souza’s goal seven minutes before injury time was the difference as Kilmore won a tight battle. Killala’s game with Westport United ‘B’ was postponed due to a bereavement.
In League One, Snugboro United continued their great start to the season with a 4-0 win away to Ballyvary Blue Bombers. Eoin Morris put ‘Boro ahead before the break and they romped away to victory with goals from Mark McGreal, Roddick Boakye and Ryan McNamara.
A brace each from John Durkan and Sam Monaghan helped Ballina Town ‘B’ secure a 5-2 win against Partry Athletic in Belleek Park. Shane Devers was also on the scoresheet for the home side while Liam Burke and Conall MacGabhan netted for Partry.
The game of the weekend was in Milebush, where Conn Rangers ‘B’ and Milebush played out a ten-goal thriller. JP Collins netted a first half hat trick as Conn led 3-2 at half-time, with Aaron Healy and Brian McHale keeping Bangor on their coattails. McHale and Padriac Carey put Bangor ahead six minutes into the second half but a Darragh Holmes penalty and another two goals for Collins gave Conn a sixth win on the spin in a run that stretches back to last season, with Collins scoring 20 goals across the six matches. Fahy Rovers and Swinford’s encounters with Claremorris ‘B’ and Kiltimagh Knock United ‘B’ respectively were postponed.
In League Two, Achill Rovers made it two wins from two after a 3-1 win over Westport United ‘C’ last Friday night. Michael Moran cancelled out United’s opener for Westport and second half strikes for Mark McNulty and Colm Campbell maintained Achill’s 100% record.
The two new arrivals to the league, Glenhest Rovers ‘B’ and Manulla ‘B’, played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in Beltra. Patrick Canavan levelled matters after Booby Canning put the ‘Hest in front but the home side were reduced to ten men after Matthew Horan was sent off after picking up two yellow cards in quick succession. Glenhest looked like they would hold on but Callan Jennings netted an equaliser in the 90th minute.
Elsewhere, Conn Rangers ‘C’ picked up their first league win as goals fromRichard McHale and Ronan Holmes secured a 2-0 win over Ballinrobe Town ‘B’. The other league game between Crossmolina ‘B’ and Fahy Rovers ‘B’ was called off.
