Fundraising Walk

Belmullet Swimming Club is teaming up with Official Erris United FC/Iorras Aontaithe to organise a fundraising walk that will coincide with the National 'Walking The Walk' with As Darragh Did. Both clubs were very fortunate to receive funding from the As Darragh Did Charity and now they want to give back and they are hoping that many people will join them?

As Darragh Did was created in memory of Darragh McGinley who died in January 2020, alongside his brother Conor and sister Carla.

Father of Darragh, Conor and Carla- Andrew McGinley- founded three projects to continue their memories. As Darragh Did provides funds to community clubs, groups, societies and projects which promote integration and inclusion and that seek to get people participating locally … as Darragh Did. Projects in memory of Conor and Carla include Connor’s Clips YouTube channel and social media and the Snowman for Carla annual colouring competition.

The event takes place along the walkway at Belmullet Tidal Pool starting from 12 to 1pm on Sunday, April 21. The walk begins at The Tidal Pool Logo sign at the Pool and use the walkway out towards the Convent, at the top of the path you turn back towards Belmullet town until you reach the gap at The Slip.  Turning here you will come back towards the pool and you will have completed 1km by returning to the Tidal Pool Sign. You can do as many laps as you like just keep a count and let us know when you are finished.

There will be plenty of marshals from both clubs to guide you along the way and although we will be on the footpath we highly recommend the wearing of hi-vis clothing to keep us all safe and seen. If you would like to support online see the website for bank transfer details https://asdarraghdid.ie/.

Bangor Hib’s are the masters

Congratulations to Jimmy Flannery and his Masters team on winning the Division 3 title after a 6-4 win over Partry Athletic in a play-off.

Despite been a goal and a man down at half-time Hibs regrouped and put in a brilliant second half performance led by Mikie Sweeney to clinch the title. Mikie had Hibs 2-1 up after 17 minutes but had Kieran Gallagher sent off for a handball on the line just before half-time and Partry converted the penalty and scored again a minute later to go 3-2 ahead at the break.

Mikie Sweeney completed his hat trick to bring the sides level three minutes into the second half and then made it 4-3 with an excellent left foot volley from 25 yards. Partry levelled again five minutes later but Pat Joe Gaughan hit two goals in three minutes on the break to put Hibs 6-4 up. The first was an excellent goal on the turn from a through ball from Thomas Murphy and the second a one on one finish after Mikie Sweeney sent him clear on goal.

Partry pushed forward with the extra man but Hibs defence stood strong thanks to some top class saves by Kyle Holmes in goal and no nonsense defending from Paddy Barrett, Shane Lindsay and Phil Thompson.
