'Moll'

Stage and time are set for Cloonacool Players production of ‘Moll’ at both venues: Cloonacool Community Centre on Friday, February 21, Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 at 8pm and in St Brigid's Hall, Tubbercurry, during the Western Drama Festival on Tuesday, March 4, also at 8pm. The next meeting of Swinford Book Club will take place on February 19, at 3.30 in Swinford Library. The book ‘Covenant of Water’ by Abraham Verghese will be discussed. New members always welcome.

Inspiring Person of the Year nomination

Congratulations to Cathal Kelly on his nomination for the Outsider.ie Most Inspiring Person of The Year Award sponsored by Craghoppers in memory of Olly O’Neill at this year’s Outsider Awards Ceremony. Cathal is truly honoured and humbled to be in the company of his fellow nominees whose stories and achievements are incredible and can be seen on the Outsider.ie website. Cathal wishes them every good wish for the event which he looks forward to attending in Dublin on February 27.

Cathal expresses his thanks to Outsider.ie and all the sponsors for recognising his own journey in this way. Cathal is also very grateful for the continued support his Kellys Walk 2 Rome journey continues to receive. The community of Swinford are proud of Cathal’s achievements and the deserved recognition he has received following his mammoth journey from Canterbury to Rome.

Age Friendly Mayo

Age Friendly Mayo is delivered by Mayo County Council and works to improve the services that older people have identified as being important to them, and the wider community, as they live healthy and active lives. The projects they offer, in conjunction with other organisations include; outdoor spaces and buildings, transportation, housing, respect and social inclusion, social participation, communication and education, civic participation and employment and health and wellbeing.

The key contributors to this programme are the Age Friendly Alliance and Mayo OIder Peoples Council. The Age Friendly Alliance brings together older people, service providers and businesses to change thinking about aging and how services to our older people are planned and delivered.

Genealogy Group

Mayo Genealogy Group meet on Saturday, February 8, at 11am in The Museum of Country Life, Turlough, Castlebar. The February meeting will offer help on researching midwives in families and communities in conjunction with an exhibition currently on display in the museum. All are welcome and new members are especially welcome.

Bereavement Support Meetings

Life after bereavement can feel very lonely. Trained facilitators conduct a weekly ‘Bereavement Support Meeting’ at the Family Centre, Knock Shrine, each Wednesday at 11am. There is also a special meeting for bereaved partners/spouses on the first Thursday of each month at 11am. No appointment needed . Further information from Monica Morley, 094 9375320.

Shamrocks GAA are setting op Bord na nÓg

Kilmovee Shamrocks GAA Club are setting up a Bord na nÓg wing to oversee the running of underage football in the club. Input from parents/guardians of children involved in the club is vital for this committee to be successful.

Bingo

Bingo is held in Kilmovee Community Centre on Sunday evenings at 8.30pm. The jackpot is €1,100 on 49 calls or less and the house lotto is €440 on four correct numbers. There is also a 50/50 draw with a guaranteed winner every week. The committee thanks their patrons who support the bingo weekly, your support is greatly appreciated.

Kilmovee Altar Society

Fr Joseph Gavigan PP is interested in setting up an Altar Society in Kilmovee. Eight people have already volunteered to get involved and another four to six people are required to make the running of an Altar Society more efficient. If you can help contact Fr Joseph on 086 160 5373. He expresses sincere thanks to Leona Duffy and Geraldine Duffy for their commitment thus far.

Finally Fr Joseph acknowledges the late Marie Regan Egool for her commitment to her role as sacristan for twelve prior to her passing. May she rest in peace.

Eucharistic Adoration

Eucharistic Adoration resumes this coming week as follows: Monday - Kilmovee from 10am to12 noon, Glann from 4 to 8pm: Wednesday – Urlaur from 7 to 8pm; Thursday - Kilkelly from 10am to 2pm.

First Cois Tine Night of 2025

The next Cois Tine Night will take place on Monday, February 10, in Kilmovee Community Centre. All are welcome to join for live music, song, dance, home baked goods, and a raffle. Doors open at 8pm and admission is free. All musicians, dancers and storytellers are welcome.

Kilmovee/Urlaur Group Water Scheme

Due to the recent cold weather and the subsequent thaw, Kilmovee Urlaur Group Water Scheme committee have noticed that there is increased water usage in most areas of the network due to burst water pipes. They would urge each member to check their water connection for leakage and to repair it immediately to avoid high water bills in June.

Kilmovee Swimming Pool calls for more support

The annual general meeting (AGM) of Kilmovee Swimming Pool will take place on Wednesday, February 5, in the Thatch Cottage, Kilmovee Community Centre at 8pm. They are looking for more volunteers and support this year to ensure the pool can open and run smoothly during the Summer months. Attend the AGM and show your commitment and support to a very valuable amenity enjoyed by so many from the community and surrounding areas.

Support Kilmovee NS

Kilmovee Parents Association announced the commencement of the Deposit Return Scheme fundraising initiative for Kilmovee National School recently. They have set a target of €950 and plan to provide an all-weather outdoor space for the children to enjoy. This will include an outdoor classroom, outdoor activity equipment, and a mini Kilmovee Community Play Village. Please help the fundraising initiative and donate your bottles to reach this goal. Plastic bottles and aluminium cans with the Return logo can be dropped into the school Re-turn bin which will be left inside the school gate at the bus drop off point each Monday only between 9am and 2.30pm.

The death occurred of Vincent Creighton, Ballinamore, Kiltimagh. He was buried in Kilkinure Cemetery, Kiltimagh on Friday, January 31. Vincent was brother of Una Gordon, Carracastle, Bohola.

Daffodil Day Community Organisers

The Irish Cancer Society is seeking Daffodil Day community organisers in the community. Your enthusiasm and organisational skills can raise vital funds and awareness for cancer patients and their families. If you have a few hours to spare, have good connections in your local community and are available on March 28, you are the perfect candidate to support the organisation of Daffodil Day in your area. Your time will assure that the Irish Cancer Society can continue to provide much needed services to cancer patients and anyone impacted by cancer in Ireland. Moy Davitts 50/50 draw

Registration is now open for all players and club members on www.foireann.ie for Moy Davitts. All players must be registered before returning to training. All underage players who register before February 14, will receive game day shorts (white and red) plus red midi socks as part of their registration.
