Midwinter melodies

A stunning concert of seasonal music by Candlelight in St Muredach’s Cathedral, Ballina, will be held on Friday, November 29, at 8pm. It will be hosted by Eileen Dunne, with guest artist Eimear Quinn, St Muredach’s Cathedral Choir and St Mary's Secondary School choir. Tickets cost €30 and are available online at www.ballinaparish.org or in the parish office from 9am-5pm. All proceeds are towards St Muredach’s Cathedral Restoration project.

November Sunshine

Parishioners were blessed with beautiful weather on both Sundays for the annual cemetery rosary in Ballinahaglish and Cloghans cemeteries. The rosary and prayers were recited by Fr Michael Reilly and Mons Sean Killeen and was attended by large crowds. Special thanks was extended to both committees for their dedication to the upkeep of the cemeteries.

Crossmolina 

 Lotto

There was no winner of Crossmolina Deel-Rovers GAA Club lotto jackpot on Saturday night, November 9, in Hineys, and the numbers drawn were 7, 27, 29 and 30. Two punters matched three numbers Michael and Mary Lynn, Keenagh, and Damien Lavin, Church View, Crossmolina, and each won €75. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held on Saturday, November 16, was €6,900.

U21 championship defeat

A very much understrength Crossmolina suffered a heavy defeat away to a very strong Westport side in this U21 championship on a lovely mild autumn afternoon. A brace of goals from Conal Dawson and Joey Holmes in opening half set the west Mayo team up for a comfortable opening half. Crossmolina did fight back with 1-1 from Dylan Flynn and a brace of points from Oisin Deane and Patrick O’Malley and one from Danny McDonald. After the break Danny McDonald, Adam Mills and Dylan Flynn tacked on points. In between Westport had tacked on another 2-10 and Dylan Flynn scored with two points and one from Oisin Deane as the hosts marched on to the next round with ease. The final score was Westport 6-16, Crossmolina 1-11.

Christmas Church Concert

Killala Pastoral Council present "Christmas in Killala with Michael English". A Christmas Church Concert will be held in St. Patrick's R.C. Church, Killala, on Friday, December 6, at 8pm. Doors open at 7pm. Tickets costing €30 and are available from Thelma (096 32176) and Madeline (083 8817482). All proceeds going to local charities.

Community Centre lotto

Music workshop

Children with additional needs of primary school age can participate in a series of interactive music workshops at Killala Community Centre. These are facilitated by music therapist Rosie Connolly. Remembrance Ceremony

A special Remembrance Ceremony for the faithful departed will take place in Ardagh Church next Sunday, November 24, at 5pm. The ceremony is always viewed as a very special event dedicated to families who have lost loved ones throughout the past year. The ceremony will be followed by refreshments in the community centre and all are very welcome to attend. Great credit must go to the organisers of the event.

Church Jubilee

The Church of the Assumption, Ardagh, will celebrate its Platinum Jubilee on December 8. Archbishop Francis Duffy has been invited to celebrate the Sunday 11am Mass with parish priest Fr Pat Munnelly. Members of the Pastoral Council are looking for old photographs and other memorabilia associated with Ardagh Church to be put on display in the community centre to form part of the hugely important and significant occasion. Club awards

Ardagh GAA Club will hold its annual presentation evening in Mickey O'Boyle's on December 30. Proceedings will kick off at 8pm with a packed agenda that includes Christmas draw, final lotto draw for 2024, Player of the Year awards plus plenty of fun, entertainment and music to round off the celebrations.

November Masses

November envelopes are placed at the back of the church and households are encouraged to take one and fill in the names of their deceased so that they can be remembered at all Masses during the month.

Crossmolina Community Council

Crossmolina Community Council are looking to offer their community bus to a wider section of the local population. The bus is an essential commodity for the community and it is in the interest of all to keep it running. The community council are trying to expand the Wednesday service, which currently runs from 12.30pm to 3.30pm weekly. The service can be used to attend the doctor, pharmacy, hairdresser, the library or any other need you may have. It is a great chance to meet a friend for lunch or shopping. If there is sufficient uptake the service could be made official through Local Link and be free for pensioners. Currently the rate is €5 return..
