Local Notes: St Louis CS Kiltimagh 2nd year boys basketball win their first league game
 St Louis CS 2nd Year boys basketball team and coach Ms Hopkins who had a great win against Gortnor Abbey 46-15 in their first league game last week.
Kiltimagh GAA Club will hold its awards night in the Cill Aodain Court Hotel on Friday next, February 9, at 9.30pm. Awards to be presented include Senior Men’s Player of the Year, Ladies Senior Player of the Year, Kiltimagh GAA Hall of Fame and Kiltimagh Club Person of the Year. There will be finger food and music and lots of spot prizes to be won on the night.
Following the success of their hilarious comedy The Cheque’s in the Post last October Clann Machua are back with their festival play Stolen Child for 2024 which will be performed in the Townhall Theatre Kiltimagh from Thursday, February 22, to Saturday, February 24. Directed by Seamus Corry, Stolen Child is a two act play written by Yvonne Quinn and Bairbre Ni Chaoimh and is a humorous and moving play which centres around one woman’s search for her birth mother.
It will also be staged in the Town Hall Theatre in Westport on February 28 before hitting the road to take part in the 2024 All Ireland Drama Festival Circuit including performances in Castleblaney, West Cork, Claregalway, Tubbercurry, Claremorris and Glenamaddy.
The death took place of Rosaleen (Rose) Walsh, Derryvohey, Balla. Rose was a kind and gentle lady who was highly respected in the area and who always had a smile and warm welcome for those who visited her home. She was cherished by all her family and was a devoted aunt to her nieces and nephews who will sadly miss her into the future as will her neighbours and friends. Rose is survived by her sisters, brothers, sister-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends.
Reposing was in O’Hora's Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, January 24, after which removal took place to the Church of the Holy Family, Kiltimagh. Funeral Mass was on Thursday followed by burial in Kilkinure Cemetery. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
In Round 2 of the Spring Poker League played in Teach O’Hora on Wednesday night last, Kieran Magee came out on top after a heads up deal with runner up Michael Sheridan. Isaac Boyle won third prize and the other finalists were 4 Martin Regan, 5 Mary McGlynn, 6 John Reynolds, 7 Pat Boyle, 8 Paul Walsh, 9 Nicky Cunnane. Isaac is now well clear at the top of the league table on 61 points with Daniel Kennedy next on 41. The rest of the top twelve is; Kieran Magee, AN Other and Bart Furtak 31, Pat Boyle 29, Michael Higgins 28, John Reynolds 28, Martin Regan 27, Michael Sheridan 26, Gerry Groarke 26, Nicky Cunnane 23.
The league runs for fifteen weeks with a tournament in Teach O’Hora every Wednesday night at 8pm. Entry is €20 with one optional rebuy and late reg until 9.30pm. €5 from each entry and rebuy goes towards the league final prize pool and the rest is paid out each night. The top twelve in the league table automatically qualify for the final along with two other qualifiers from a play off for those outside the top twelve.
Entry to any round of the league is strictly for members only and no new membership will be available for the foreseeable future.
An Irish Poker Tour satellite will be held in Teach O’Hora on Sunday, February 11, at 4pm. This is a satellite to the €250 buy in main event (€20,000 guaranteed) at the Mayo Poker Festival in the McWilliam Hotel, Claremorris, on Friday/Saturday, February 16/17. Entry is €45 to this tournament and is also strictly for Mayo Poker Tour members only.
Congratulations to 50/50 winner John Brennan from Kiltimagh who picked up a cheque for €615 at the draw held on Saturday night, January 27, in Kitty’s Bar.
A new parish secretary, Francy McNicholas, has recently been appointed to provide secretarial and administrative support to four parishes - Bohola, Kiltimagh, Straide and Swinford. Francy is part of an initiative begun by Bishop Paul Dempsey to help ease the burden of administration on priests as numbers decline. She is wished well in her new role. Her office is attached to Parochial House in Swinford. The office hours are Monday to Friday 9am to 11am and 2.30pm to 5.30pm. The annual general meeting of Kiltimagh Knock United takes place on Friday, February 23, at 8.30pm in the clubhouse at CMS Park, Cloonlee, Knock. Motions and nominations are to be submitted by 5pm on February 16, to the club secretary by email at kiltimaghknockutdsec@yahoo.com.

The three top prizes at the 25 Drive held in the Parish Centre, Kiltimagh, on January 25 were shared by Mary and Richard Carney, Mary and Jimmy Doyle and Chris Flatley and Denis Regan. Best of Last 10 were Kathleen Gill and John Walsh, spot prize winners Tom Flatley and Francis McNicholas and winners in the raffle were Richard Carney, Aidan Lydon and John Walsh.
The winners in the monthly Kiltimagh Credit Union members draw for January were 1st prize of €500 Philip O’Brien Gleeson, 2nd prize of €300 Patrick Ryan, 3rd prize of €200 Margaret Flanagan, 4th prize of €100 Sharon Tighe, 5th prize of €100 Mary Holian.
Kiltimagh Knock United is looking for new people - parents, players and members of the wider community - to join the committee. There are various roles to be filled and developed, including registrar, assistant secretary, assistant treasurer, for example, and other roles within the club such as 50/50 sellers.
KK are also looking for coaches across all underage levels, boys and girls, to help with teams. Garda vetting and safeguarding is compulsory.
KK is a community club and this season they're asking for the community - both within the club and outside - to get involved to ensure it remains sustainable and successful, on the pitch and off it. The death occurred of Adam Colgan, Cahir, Kiltimagh, on Tuesday, January 23, and his funeral took place in Midfield on Saturday, January 27. He was the son of Brendan Colgan, native of Clooneen, and of Michelle (née Campbell).
The death also took place of Gerald Hyland, London and formerly of Carracastle, who died recently in London. He was the brother of TJ Hyland, Carracastle. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Sympathy is extended to their families and pray they are at peace.

Kilmovee Shamrocks GAA AGM took place in the clubhouse on Friday, February 2, at 8pm. Together with Shamrocks LGFA a celebratory dinner dance will be held in Julians of Midfield on Saturday, February 10. Tickets are on sale in local businesses in Kilkelly and Kilmovee and from club officers.
The heritage nights will now be held on the second Monday night of the month and the next heritage night will be February 12, at 8.30pm.
Kilmovee Swimming Pool and Aqua Sports Club will hold their annual general meeting on Thursday, February 15, at 8pm in Kilmovee Community Centre.
The death took place of John Gavin in his 91st year peacefully, in Mayo University Hospital surrounded by his loving family. John was a native of Drishaghaun, Ballyglass, Mayo Abbey, Co. Mayo but he spent most of his life in the Tooreen, Ballyhaunis area of East Mayo and in later years resided in Clooncan, Ballinlough area of West Roscommon. John was a very popular resident of the locality and a popular figure at fairs, cattle marts and all kinds of public events.
John was predeceased by his parents Patrick and Catherine, brothers, sisters and his son-in-law Paul Finnegan. He is survived by his heartbroken wife Josephine (of 68 years), sons Tommy (Boston), John (Tavneena), Jim (Scrigg, Aghamore), Martin (Ballyhaunis) and Andy (Clooncan), daughters Kathleen Regan (Boston), Mabel Finan (Cloonfower), Annie Finan (Brenamore), Margaret Gavin Robinson (Huntsfield), Teresa Finnegan (Claregalway), Janie Gavin Reynolds (Bawnmore, Claregalway), Jodie Costello (Garrymore, Claremorris), Chris Walsh (Castlebar) and Mary McGreal (Owenwee, Westport), his 39 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbours and a wide circle of friends. John reposed in Gavin's Funeral Home, Knox Street, Ballyhaunis, on Tuesday, January 30, with removal on Wednesday January 31, arriving to St. Joseph's Church, Aghamore, for Mass of the Resurrection at 11.30am followed by interment in the local cemetery. May John rest in peace as deepest sympathy is extended to all who are bereaved by his passing.
