Local Notes: Rehins NS girls win the Celtic Cup for 1st time

5th and 6th class girls from Rehins NS played in the Celtic Cup hosted by Ballina Town FC. The girls were victorious and for the first time ever brought back the Celtic Cup to Rehins NS where they were met by the whole school who lined the footpaths to welcome them home.
Congratulations to Martin Carr junior who has been appointed Mayo County GAA Board's new Games Promotion Officer for East Mayo. The young Ardagh official has strong family links with Mayo and Ardagh GAA. The role of the Games Promotion Officer (GPO), employed by Mayo County Board, is to develop and promote the national games of hurling and Gaelic football in clubs, schools and the community through GAA camps and workshops for parents/mentors and players. Ardagh GAA Club officers wish Martin every success in his new role.
Very special birthday wishes are extended to Ardagh GAA number one supporter, James Gough, who celebrates his 30th birthday this week. Reaching any milestone in life makes us reflect on what is important in life and Ardagh GAA is what is important to James. James is loved and admired by everyone at the club especially all the players and committee who always make James feel very welcome. A special birthday celebration will be held in Mickey O’Boyle's this Friday night, July 25, and there is an open invitation to everyone to come along and join James, his family and many friends to celebrate this very special occasion. Crossmolina Sensory Garden and Grainne Uaile Sub Aqua Club will share the proceeds from the recent charity football match held in Ardagh A total of €3,220 was raised from the hugely-successful fun event with the proceeds divided between the charities. Well done to all involved.

The show is a fantastic family day out with live entertainment for kids and adults. They have a huge list of competitions and displays including horses, ponies, cattle, sheep, goats, poultry, domestic arts, horticulture, dogs and many more. There are some fantastic free children's entertainment lined up for the day as well as some live music and dancing. As with tradition they will also have their bonny baby, most appropriately dressed lady and gentleman, glamorous granny competitions and so much more. There will also be the fantastic jiving competition, Tug of War, World Champion Irish dancers and local musicians to round out the lively day.
The indoor committee extend thanks to all the volunteers that helped last year and previous years in the Home Industries/Indoor Section and new volunteers are welcome. There will be busy slots from 8am-5.30pm. The committee plan to meet on the show field indoor section on Thursday evening, July 24, at 8pm if you are free to meet or alternatively drop into the show office and leave your name and number.
Abbeytown/Abbeyview Resident’s Association Annual Family Fun Day will take place from 1-5pm on Saturday, August 9. Entry is free but donation will be welcome on the day. Children must be supervised at all time and with this in mind, bring along all the family for a great day of entertainment, fun, food and craic. Contact 087 1871522 for further information.
Crossmolina Town Hall is undergoing a much-needed revamp, and your support is needed. The newly -formed committee is facing urgent repairs, including a leaking roof and damp issues that must be addressed immediately. Once structurally sound, the building will be repainted and revitalized to better serve the community.
The committee are excited to partner with the local social services to elevate the project to a new level of community engagement. This beautiful, historic building has long been a heart of the town and they believe it deserves a future as bright as its past. They are actively seeking donations, sponsorships, and support from local businesses, community groups, organisations and individuals.

The annual Cemetery Masses will be held in St Tiernan’s, Crossmolina, on Sunday, July 27, at 11.30am weather permitting. The 11.30am Mass will move from the church to the cemetery; and at St Patrick’s Well, Triste, on Sunday, July 27, at 2.30pm.
There was no winner of Crossmolina Deel-Rovers GAA Club lotto jackpot on Saturday, July 12, when the draw was held in Sticks Bar. The numbers drawn were 18, 22, 24 and 29. Damien Mulkearns, Mullenmore Rd, Crossmolina matched three numbers and won €150. This jackpot in the lotto which was held on Saturday, July 19, was €3,150.
