Swinford Killasser LGFA awards night

The Swinford Killasser LGFA Club awards night was held recently in Swinford Cultural Centre celebrating the 2024 teams (U13 and above). Regina Mullaney was MC and together with Kieran Gallagher reflected on 2024 and thanked the members, players, coaches, liaisons and the entire back-room teams, volunteers and the executive team that all contribute extensively to make the club a success. Regina, commending the hard work of Phillip, Martin and their teams at Swinford Amenity Park noted how lucky the club is to have such incredible facilities dedicated for the benefit of the people of Swinford and thanked the broader community for their ongoing support of the lotto. Regina noted all the initiatives both on and off the pitch that support the wider community from nursery, parades, language and culture and its interaction with community clubs and groups. Regina made a special mention to role models within the club playing for Mayo - Emily Gavin, Chloe Gallagher, Claudine Brennan, Rhona Brennan, Lauren Crawford and Kaitlin Henry and to all the minor and senior players representing their college and universities. The club is very proud of all their achievements and the paths fostered for upcoming players. It is wonderful to know that the players who have honed their skills in Swinford Killasser LGFA club are continuing to play in college and beyond. Regina thanked all the supportive committee who had participated in organising and running the event.

The following medals were presented: U13 league shield division 1 managed by Alan Heaney, Sean Roughneen and Vanessa Crawford; U14A division 2 Cup winners managed by Leo Gavin and John Dunne; U14B Championship (F) cup winners managed by Eddie Moore, and Paulette Lynskey; U15 league cup division 2 runners up managed by Leo Gavin and John Dunne; U16B championship cup runners up managed by James Mc Nicholas, Tony Doherty and Sean. Roughneen.

The following awards were presented: Player of the Year as voted by the senior team, the recipient of The Tara Ryan Memorial Cup for 2024 was Regina Mullaney; Most committed player (minor) went to Sarah McCallion; Most committed player (senior) was won by Sarah Rowley; Presentations were made to former chairperson Regina Mullaney and former secretary and chairperson Vanessa Crawford for her dedicated work for and on behalf of the club.

A Grey Wing Upon Every Tide

Síamsa Sráide Street Festival Swinford presents 'A Grey Wing Upon Every Tide' by Colin Carberry on Friday, August 1, at 2pm in Boland's Bar where poet, editor and reviewer Colin Carberry of Toronto will give a talk covering many topics from the Irish Diaspora to Irish History. Colin will reminiscence on his own family and Republican activity during the War of Independence in Longford as well as colourful historical Irish figures in Mexico. Colin will also launch his new poetry book 'Ghost Homeland'.

Youth Memorial Garden

On Saturday, May 24, at 11am the Youth Memorial Garden Team will be getting the garden summer ready. Anyone who wishes to help are very welcome to come along.  You may be someone with a gift for planting flowers or be happy pulling weeds, all help will be very much appreciated. A Mass at the garden is planned – date and time will be published when finalised. A Prayer Service will be held at the garden on Friday, 30, May at 7pm. 

Petanque Club

Floristry course

Swinford Active Minds are holding a three-week floristry course, offered by Blossoms Floral and Home Styling Boutique in Ballina, in Swinford Cultural Centre, commencing Wednesday, May 14, from 7.30 to 9.30pm.  As this course is partially funded by MSLETB, spaces are limited, and booking is essential.  Contact 087 4150663 by phone or WhatsApp to reserve your place. Ah Ref

A great night was enjoyed in Julian’s of Midfield for Swinford GAA Club’s club fundraiser, “Up for the match” style, hosted by Ah Ref. Thanks to guests Stephen Cowboy Kelly, John Casey, Noel Connelly and the Ah Ref lads for making it a success. Special thanks to Chris Toner for supplying the sound. Big thanks to the main organiser Aidan McLoughlin and Paddy Cunney who was MC on the night. And finally, the Midfield Pipe band for concluding the event.

Mission of Hope – Killasser Parish

Mission of Hope will be held in Killasser parish from Wednesday, May 14, until Saturday, May 17, and it will be given by Fr. Michael McCullagh CM and Fr. Aidan Galvin CM. The topics discussed will include; Wednesday 14, A Journey of Faith; Thursday 15, A Journey of Love; Friday 16, A Journey to Wholeness; and Saturday 17, A Journey of Hope. Morning Mass will be celebrated at 9.30am from Wednesday until Friday. Evening session at 7.30pm from Wednesday until Friday. Early morning Mass on Thursday, May 15, at 7am, Babies and young children blessing ceremony at 2pm on Saturday, May 17. Closing Mass will be held on Saturday, May 17, at 8pm which is also the Exam Mass for 2025.

Summer Camp

Bohola Summer Camp will be held from July 28 to August 1, in Bohola Community Centre from 10am - 2pm daily. It is suitable for children aged 3 -12, and the cost is 1 child €80, 2 siblings €140. The camp will be music, song and dance themed with a performance on Friday. There will also be multi activities such as art, treasure hunt, obstacle course and more. Golden Jubilee

Fr Padraig Costello, parish priest of Foxford parish, is celebrating his 50th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood this year. Fr Padraig spent many years in the parish of Bohola. ‘Go Purple Day’
