Local Notes: Pete Lavelle Memorial Darts Tournament proceeds presented to Ballyglass RNLI

Mrs Lee Lavelle, wife of the late Peter (Pete) Lavelle presenting proceeds of the first ever Pete Lavelle Memorial Darts Tournament to Ballyglass Fundraising vice chairman John Gaughan. also included is her son Jimmy Lavelle.
The first annual Pete Lavelle Memorial was a great success this past Sunday with 50 players and a massive €1520 raised for charity. After a great afternoon of round robin games, the evening saw our last 8 teams battle it out with Aiden Maloney and Tom Moran coming out as deserving champions beating Pat and Johnny Deane in a quality final.
Semi finalists were Brendan Conway and Jimmy Lavelle, and Tony and George Maloney.The highest checkout on the day was 130 by Kevin Rowland.
Presentations of €760 each were made on the night by the Lavelle family to both John Gaughan on behalf of the RNLI and Brendan Conway on behalf of the Pullathomas Graveyard. On behalf of the family and organisers, a massive thank you to Mixie, Hannah, Mia, Pearce and Jason Healy for the brilliant setup and hospitality on the day, and also to Shane, Rachel, Ryan and Jimmy that kept everything running smoothly ensuring everything was wrapped up by 10pm.
A big thank you to all that sponsored raffle prizes, those that sold and bought tickets, and to all who contributed in any way to a super day.
Finally to the players who showed up played in the event, and with more darts than ever before now on in Erris, it's great to see the support for memorial events and even better to see good sums of money being raised for important charities. Once again a massive congrats to winners Aiden and Tom and a thank you to Jimmy and the Lavelle family for hosting this event in Petes Memory.
The Cill Chomain Club annual Bord na nÓg presentation took place recently at the Anglers Rest, Glenamoy, and it was fantastic to see such a large turnout. A special thank you to Mayo GAA senior footballer Eoin O’Donoghue, Mayo LGFA senior footballer Hannah Reape, and Seán Murphy, captain of the 2024 junior team, for being special guests. Thanks to everyone who spoke and offered kind words of encouragement to the underage teams. The club appreciate all those who helped organise the event and present the awards. A heartfelt thanks to everyone who decorated the hall, assisted with food and refreshments, and provided the delicious home-baked treats. Special thanks to Michael, Bernie, and family for the use of the hall and their continued support. Thanks to WestCoast Crab Sales Ltd. for sponsorship of jerseys during the year. The Tracey Moran Memorial Darts Competition will take place in The Anglers Rest in Glenamoy on January 12. Names will be taken from 3pm and the draw will be made at 3.45pm, with games to start at 4pm. €10 entry fee on the day. The competition is confined to Erris players with raffle and refreshments on the night with plenty of prizes to be won. Proceeds this year will be donated to the Help Mags Find Relief Fund. Please come along to support a great day of darts and all in aid of a great cause.
Kiltane GAA club have not only allocated a place for the community polytunnel garden for the Bangor Erris Women's Biodiversity Group which is for the men and women of the area recently they went green, by composting the bingo books/raffle tickets/paper cups/teabags. Protecting the environment and cutting costs on their bin waste.
In 2025 they will continue to improve and support the community, biodiversity and sustainability.
