Castlebar Mitchels B 3-09 Kiltimagh 1-11 Kiltimagh are facing yet another relegation play-off after a disappointing defeat to Castlebar Mitchels B, in the Mayo Intermediate Football Championship Group 2 Round 3 fixture, played at Aghamore, last week.
The game was played in ideal conditions and Kiltimagh got a great start when Donavan Cosgrave blasted home a goal, just three minutes into the contest. Despite the good start, Kiltimagh went in, behind at the break, by 1-06 to 1-02. Kiltimagh kept believing, however, and that will please the management team, especially the late rally which reduced a seven-point deficit down to one point, in stoppage time. Then disaster struck in the form of a goal for Mitchels to put the contest beyond Kiltimagh, in the time remaining. With most of the Kiltimagh players pushed forward, in search of an equaliser, Mitchels broke from the halfway line and finished to the net. While the result was cruel, the Kiltimagh comeback was reminiscent of their play-off last year, when a late rally saved them from junior championship football, for this season, at the expense of Bonniconlon. They will need to rally that hunger once more, when they face Kilmaine in a relegation play-off semi-final on Sunday next, September 29, with a 3.30pm throw-in in Claremorris. Islandeady and Lahardane will contest the other semi-final.
Scorers for Kiltimagh were 1-02, Dylan Roche 0-04, Cian Gallagher 0-03, Aiden Cosgrove and Conor Malee 0-01 each. The Kiltimagh team was: Seán Gilmartin, Ryan Carroll, Mattie Cummins, Darragh McGovern; Jack Niland, Evan Cosgrove, Tomás Keegan; Liam Kelly, Donovan Cosgrove; Oisin Mulderrig, Aiden Cosgrove, Brian Gallagher; Conor Malee, Dylan Roache, Cian Gallagher. Subs used: Max Bennett, Niall Mulderrig, Jordan Henry.

The play, by Mulrannny-writer, Michael Joe Ginnelly, is one of the funniest plays ever put on the stage. The play is set during the wake of Tom Healy who drank himself to death, and now wishes his grave to be a watery one, by requesting cremation and the scattering of his ashes at sea. The comedy begins when a neighbour decides that Tom is not entitled to take it all with him, to the crematorium. This hilarious play has sold out venues across the world, and the good news is, it is coming to Kiltimagh, on November 28 and 29. The production, by Clann Machua Drama Group, will be directed by Seán Langan, and commences at 8pm.

What was Kiltimagh GAA Club’s finest hour? A new book details Kiltimagh’s finest hour and that of many more clubs across the county. ‘Our Finest Hour’ is a celebration of all that is great about GAA clubs in Mayo and features a section on Kiltimagh GAA Club. Written by the highly respected and experienced GAA journalist, Edwin McGreal, the book features glory days from 54 football and hurling clubs throughout the county and is also a tribute to the clubs themselves and what they give to their communities. Featuring wonderful moments across seven decades – from 1958 to 2023 – it highlights some lesser-known stories and fresh perspectives on some famous days. Based on first-person testimony from more than 200 men and women involved in these clubs and together with forensic research, is illustrated by over 200 photographs, many of which have never been published before. This book focuses not just on the glory days but the context behind them, the journeys that precipitated them, the fun and laughter, the sorrow and sadness, all of which offers a unique insight into every corner of the county. Presented as a wonderful hardback book, this book will be launched as part of the Wild Atlantic Words Festival on Saturday, October 12, in Castlebar.
