Ardagh

U16 champions

Huge congratulations this week to Árdleathmaigh U16s who had a historic victory when winning the North Mayo U16 A football championship final in Cill Chomain last week. 

The team pipped neighbours Naomh Padraig on a scoreline of 1-12 to 2-7. The team displayed tremendous skill, determination and grit throughout the hugely competitive contest and certainly deserved their victory. 

Special words of congratulations also to team management members JD McDonnell, Paddy Walsh, Barry Leonard and all the background members and supporters. An achievement richly deserved for their selfless dedication.

Lotto

There was no outright winner of Ardagh GAA Club's first lotto draw of the season held last weekend. Congratulations to Gerry Gillespie and Margaret Murphy on winning €50 each. The numbers drawn were 1, 25, 29 and 9. 

The club thank everyone who has purchased annual tickets and all those who play the monthly lotto draw online. The next monthly lotto draw will take place on Sunday, July 19. 

Diamond Jubilee

Congratulations to Canon John George MacHale, Ardagh, who celebrated the 60th anniversary (Diamond Jubilee) of his ordination to the priesthood last week. A special Mass was celebrated in his honour in Ardagh Church last Wednesday evening followed by a reception in the community centre.

Cheque presentation

Lisheen/Cooneal/Crossmolina Cycling Club members recently presented a €1,200 cheque to Ardagh Social Services which was accepted by Elaine O'Boyle. The cheque was the proceeds of the recent annual memorial charity cycle in memory of Brian Cawley, Patrick McHale and Christine Irwin. Well done to all who participated and organised the cycle.

Wedding

Outdoor Mass

The annual Mass at Our Lady's Grotto, Cèide will take place this evening, Tuesday, July 7, at 7pm (weather permitting). Everyone is welcome to attend.

Congratulations are extended to Mark and Sarah McDonnell, last week's winners of €215 in the GAA 50/50 draw.

Half Marathon and 10k

The Cèide Coast Atlantic Run, Half Marathon and 10k will take place on Saturday, September 19, in Ballycastle. Register online at Event Master.

Bonniconlon/Attymass

Public meeting

An important public meeting regarding the future of Attymass Community Centre will be held on Thursday, July 9, at 8.30pm in the community centre. It is important that as many members of Attymass community as possible attend. Please share this information with as many residents as you can.

Children’s Choir

The Bonniconlon children's choir are appealing to any child who would like to play a role in their monthly church liturgy to sit in the company of the choir. This will enable other roles, other than singing or music, to be assigned to a child such as Prayers of the Faithful, readings, bringing up of the offertory gifts etc. 

Choir practice take place every Tuesday evening at 8pm. For more information on practice, contact Aisling on 087-990 3536.

Welcome Home Week

Welcome Home Week Bonniconlon is taking place from July 31 to August 9. A programme of events are to follow. There will be lots for everyone to look forward to.

Biodiversity Group

A new Bonniconlon Biodiversity Group has recently been established under the umbrella of the Community Council. As part of its development, they would welcome ideas, suggestions, or proposals from local groups and organisations that may help shape future biodiversity projects or community-led environmental actions in the area. 

They would also like to invite expressions of support from established community groups who may wish to support this initiative. If your group would like to contribute ideas or express support, forward your response to bonniconloncommunitycouncil@gmail.com.

Lotto

The numbers drawn in the Bonniconlon Lotto, which was held on Saturday, June 28 last for a jackpot of €15,950, were 8, 14, 21 and 36. There was no jackpot winner and the five €40 prizes went to Mary McGrath, Cong; Michael Ginley, Carralavin, Bonniconlon; Winnie Foole, Swinford; McCann Grandkids, Bonniconlon; and Laura Granahan, Rathreedane, Bonniconlon. 

The jackpot in the draw which took place on Saturday, July 4, was €16,100.
