Swinford Go-Getters

Swinford Go-Getters will host the following events – each Thursday from 1.30 to 2.30pm, Activator Pole Instruction in the Cultural Centre in Swinford. The cost is €4. A good exercise to keep participants fit.

On the first Thursday of each month from 12.30 to 1.30pm, there will be a games session e.g. Boccia, Skittles, Parachute etc Refreshments served. Contact Ann at 087-7459089 or Bridie at 087-9049723 for further details.

KCC Monthly Bingo Night

The next bingo night, organied by Killasser Community Centre (KCC), will be held in the Turf Shed on Wednesday, November 15, at 8pm. Future bingo nights include December 6th.

KCC Indoor Soccer

Friday night indoor soccer in Killasser Community Centre returns on November 10 with 6pm kick-off. The cost is €2 per child or €5 per family.

Quiz Night

The Turf Shed, Killasser will host a Table Quiz on Saturday, November 25, at 8pm. Proceeds from the quiz will go towards the Senior Parishioners’ Christmas Dinner.

Golf Club Card Games

Weekly Card Games in the Golf Club continue every Thursday at 9pm. All welcome.

Killasser Card Games

Monday night card game continues in Killasser Community Centre at 8pm. All welcome including beginners.

Prayer Service

The annual Swinford Parish Prayer Service to remember and pray for members of the parish who have died since November 2022 will take place in Swinford Church on Friday, November 10, at 7.30pm.

Weighbridge

Plans are in place to renovate and refurbish the old Weighbridge building at Lower Brookville Avenue, Swinford. Efforts are being made to find out the history of the weighbridge and any stories about this historic piece of the town’s history would be particularly welcome. Pilates

Pilates classes with Mary return from Tuesday, November 7, in Swinford Cultural Centre at 9.15am and 6.30pm. Gentle stretch, core abdominal and relaxation movements in a relaxed setting. Please call Mary for queries and to book your place at 085-2150781.

One-Act Drama Festival

Kiltimagh One-Act Drama Festival will be held this year from Friday to Sunday, November 10 to 12, at the Town Hall Theatre. Admission is €10 and a special weekend ticket can be purchased for €20. Tickets available at Langan’s Off-license or on the door. Curtain up each evening at 8pm except on Sunday when the shows start at 5pm.

Lotto

There was no jackpot winner in the Swinford Community Lotto draw held on October 31. The numbers drawn were, 5, 8, 9 and 27. The winners of €70 vouchers were Melanie Horkan, Park Road and Joe May Gallagher, Meelick; €35 each was won by Mary Pidgeon, Dublin Road, Colin Duggan, Swinford, Ger Lester, c/o Tara Café, Mary and Samantha Doherty, c/o Moore’s and Padraig Martin, Castlebar. The jackpot is now €8,200.

Crime Prevention

An information night on crime prevention and home security will take place in Killasser Community Centre on Thursday, November 9, at 8pm.

Speakers on the night will be Sgt Sean Cunnane, Mayo Crime Prevention Officer; Gérard Costello, Muinter na Tire Community Alert and Sgt Regina Carley. All welcome.

Coolegrane Lights

Coolegrane Lights will be switched on on Friday, December 8, at 7pm. All proceeds this year will go to Mayo/Roscommon Hospice Palliative Care Service.

Queen of the Land Festival

Best of luck to Chloe Gallagher, the Mayo Queen from Swinford Macra na Feirme, who is competing in the 59th Queen of the Land Festival, taking place in the County Arms Hotel, Birr next weekend.

Tara’s Run for Fun 2023

Tara’s Run for Fun 2023 has raised an incredible €5,833.60, which will be divided equally between Killasser Community Centre and Mayo Roscommon Hospice.

The Hussey family would like to thank everyone who supported this day and made it so successful and enjoyable. Thanks to the stewards who kept everyone safe on the roads and to the ladies who fed and took care of everyone afterwards.

GAA 50/50

Congratulations to Julia Calter who was last week’s winner of the Swinford GAA Club 50/50 draw held in Eurospar. The next draw will be held in Moore’s.

Quiz

A quiz will take place in Boland’s Bar, Bridge Street, Swinford on Friday, November 10, at 9.30pm. This is the second instalment of the Beat the Winter Blues season. The cost is €2 per person for tables of four. The winning team gets to pick a prize from the mystery box! All welcome.

Bohola

Raffle

The Durkan Bohola Community Park is holding a raffle with a first prize of two tickets to Manchester United v Bayern Munich in the Champions League at Old Trafford on Wednesday, December 12. There is also €250 cash to go towards flights, etc. The hospitality opens at 5pm and includes a free bar, three-course dinner, match day programmes, two top class seats to watch a must-win match for United to qualify for the next round of the Champions League.

Tickets are €10 each or three for €20 and are available from Clarke’s shop, The Village Inn or any committee member.

The draw will take place in The Village Inn, Bohola on November 18 at 9pm. Money raised goes directly into the development of the Park. Lots of other prizes on the night, including prizes from Corduff Travel and Westport House.

Safeguarding course

It is proposed to hold a training evening specifically for Eucharistic Ministers who bring Holy Communion to vulnerable persons in their own homes or to vulnerable persons in nursing homes. Indeed, anyone who has dealings with vulnerable adults in a church context can attend.

The venue will be An Chroi Digital Hub in Tubbercurry and the proposed dates are Monday and Tuesday, November 13 and 14.

Those who fall into this category and who can attend are asked to give their name to Fr Stephen O’Mahony as soon as possible as the numbers attending will determine the size of the room to be booked.

Bingo

Bingo continues in the Sheridan Memorial Community Centre in Bohola every Monday night commencing at 9pm. The books are €5 each. Tea and sandwiches available on the night.

Christmas Market

Bohola Christmas Market will be held on Sunday, December 3, in the Sheridan Memorial Community Centre from 6pm to 8pm. Stallholders wanted. Email sheridanmccbohola@gmail.com. The tables cost €20.

Moy Davitts 50/50 draw

Congratulations to Zoe Corcoran, Foxford who won a jackpot of €360 in the Moy Davitts 50/50 Draw on Saturday, October 28.

Pastoral Council report

At the meetings of Bohola Pastoral Council, the following dates were confirmed for upcoming Masses:

Mass of Remembrance in Bohola on November 23 at 8pm;

Cemetery Rosaries in St Joseph’s on November 19 and the Old Graveyard on November 26.

Training nights for altar servers are to be arranged. The programme of Mass times for Christmas was discussed and will be finalised at the next meeting.

Funeral and baptism ministries were discussed with an eye to the (not too distant!) future.

Income tax rebate

Forms for income tax rebates are available in the church. The Church as a charitable organisation can claim back the tax you have already paid on church donations. So if you are a PAYE or self-employed worker and have paid €250 or more to the church in the tax year, please fill in one of the forms and return it to the Parochial House at your earliest convenience. From our records, we will fill in the amount donated. It will cost you nothing but will add to parish funds. The relevant form, CHY3, is an enduring certificate for a period of five years. It can also be downloaded from the revenue.ie website. Thanks in anticipation!

Gurteen

The late Neil Doherty

The death took place suddenly on October 22 of Neil Doherty, Thornhill, Sligo and formerly of Buncrana, Donegal.

Neil was father of Raymond, Gurtigara, Gurteen. Sincere sympathy is extended to Raymond, Alison and daughters and also to his mother, Anna Marie, sister Clare, brothers Liam and Niall and to all the extended family and friends.

May he rest in peace.

Sympathy

The death took place tragically at Riverstown on Wednesday, October 25, of Anthony Connolly, brother of Bridie Gallagher, Special Needs Assistant at Carn NS, Gurteen. Sincere sympathy to Bridie, sister Anne and brothers Padraig, John Joe, Micheal and their families. May he rest in peace.

Collection for Epilepsy Ireland

Well done to Thomas Murphy who took up the collection last weekend at the three churches in Gurteen Parish and collected €544 in aid of Epilepsy Ireland.

Confirmation and Communion

The dates for Confirmation and First Holy Communion in Gurteen are as follows: Confirmation on Sunday, April 28, 2024. First Communion on Saturday, May 11, in Cloonloo and in Gurteen on Sunday, May 12, 2024.

Bingo

Bingo is held in Gurteen Hall every Friday night at 8pm with a jackpot of €2,200 in 46 calls or less. Lotto raffle jackpot of €850, also 50/50 split.

Eastern Harps 50/50

The Eastern Harps 50/50 draw on Monday night, with a jackpot of €710, was won by Tony Quinn c/o Ted’s. The hampers were won by Pat Cryan, Cloonloo; Grainne Toolan, Cloonloo, and Shane O’Grady, Monasteraden.

The club is appreciative of all the support.

Gurteen Celtic

The Gurteen Celtic jackpot was not won on Sunday night last. The numbers drawn were 14, 18, 21 and 23, and the winner of the €50 was Annette O’Hara, Kingsland.

The jackpot will be €6,400 next week and the draw will be held in O’Dowd’s, Monasteraden.

Cemetery Prayers

The prayers for the dead will be recited on Sunday, November 12, at Templeronan Cemetery at 3pm and in Killaraght Old Cemetery at 2.15pm. The Mass for all who died since last November will be on Sunday, November 19, at 5pm. The annual collections for the maintenance and upkeep of the cemeteries will be held after the prayers.

Gospel Concert

Patrick Feeney and band will perform a Gospel Concert in Gurteen Church on Sunday night, November 26, at 8pm. Concert organisers Coleman Music Centre have tickets for sale - contact 071-9182599 or www.colemanirishmusic.com.
