The joyful scenes witnessed at Mickey O'Boyle's last Wednesday afternoon when Mayo's All-Ireland conquering history makers stopped off en route to Crossmolina GAA grounds following a rapturous welcome earlier at Ballina Stephenites GAA pitch will forever be etched in our collective memories. The colourful pageantry awaiting their arrival was second to none. Decked out in a sea of green and red parishioners welcomed home one of their own. When Ardagh's James Carr alighted from the bus carrying the Sam Maguire Cup the loud cheers could be heard miles away such was the warm welcome, delight and affection shown for a native son. James was hoisted high carrying the Sam Maguire cup by his brothers Joe and Martin as the players and management team mingled with the large group of well wishers who were given an opportunity to be photographed with the iconic trophy. James has played an integral part in the present Mayo team set up over recent years helping his team record many league and championship victories and it is wonderful to see him being part of the triumphant Mayo All-Ireland winning team of 2026. It would be remiss of me not to praise the wonderful work of Ardagh GAA club officials and Shauna and her staff from Mickey O'Boyle's for organising a most memorable event. Maigh Eo Abú.
Activities held in Ardagh Community Centre on a weekly basis include 25 card games every Sunday night commencing at 9pm in the upstairs room and bingo every Saturday night at 8pm. The numbers drawn in the Crossmolina Deel Rovers GAA club lotto on Saturday, July 25, in Hiney’s Bar, were 11, 15, 20 and 30. Two people matched three numbers; Martin and Olivia Donohoe Fotish, Crossmolina and Bernie and Kathleen Gilroy, Keenagh, and they won €75 each. The jackpot in the latest draw held on August 1, was €7,350. Many thanks for your continued support.
Everyone at Deel Rovers extends heartfelt congratulations to the Mayo senior team on their magnificent victory in the All-Ireland Football Final. After a 75-year wait, Mayo are champions once again, overcoming Kerry on a scoreline of 1-20 to 1-17.
Crossmolina are especially proud of their own Conor Loftus, Jordan Flynn, and Kobe McDonald, who each played an important part in this unforgettable and historic achievement for Mayo.

The Lacken Heritage Day organising committee warmly invites everyone to Lacken Heritage Day on Tuesday, August 18, from 12 noon to 3pm at the Lacken Sensory Garden, at the entrance to Lacken Strand beside Lacken Church, along the Wild Atlantic Way.
The day will feature a wide range of attractions, including weaving demonstration by Annie Gambrill – from sheep to wool; Boxty demonstration by Myr; Des will tell the fascinating story of the journey from bee to honey jar; Sharon will give a traditional basket weaving demonstration using willow. There will be traditional music, song and dance with local singers and a special appearance by The Strawboys/Set Dancers. There will be childrens workshops from 1-2pm including spinning on a drop spindle, butter making and clay workshops, and arts and crafts. There will also be a historical costume display, vintage tools and woodworking display. Wool craft display and the Bee Happy workshop. Homemade boxty, crêpes, teas, coffees, treats and Briasta Ice Cream Admission is free and everyone is welcome. The children's choir appeals to any child who would like to play a role in their monthly church liturgy or to sit in the company of the choir. A new Bonniconlon Biodiversity Group has been established under the umbrella of the Community Council. As part of its development,they would welcome ideas, suggestions, or proposals from local groups and organisations that may help shape future biodiversity projects or community-led environmental actions in the area. They would also like to invite expressions of support from established community groups who may wish to support this initiative.
