Local Notes: Mayo man graduates with Bachelor of Medicine (MB) of Surgery and Obstetrics

Congratulations are extended to Darragh McGovern, Carnacon who recently graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine (MB) of Surgery BCh) and of Obstetrics (BAO) from the University of Galway.
Balla GAA Club lotto jackpot prize stood at €7,000 for the latest draw on Thursday, June 27, in The Shebeen. The numbers drawn the previous week on Thursday, June 20, in The Rendezvous were 6, 22, 31 and 33. There was no winner of the jackpot. The death has occurred of Ray Armstrong, Burris, Manulla, Castlebar, Co Mayo. Ray passed away peacefully on June 21, after a long illness at Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar. Predeceased by his parents John and Mai, he is deeply regretted by his heartbroken wife Teresa, brother Charlie, sisters-in-law Rita (Manulla), Veronica (Doyle, Sydney), Beatrice (Gallagher, Maynooth), Geraldine (McNicholas, Sraheens), Jarlatha (Kelly, Ballyheane), brother-in-law John (Kelly, Ballyheane), nephew John and his wife Michelle, nieces Oonagh and her partner Greg and Aoife and her husband Damien, relatives, neighbours and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.
Ray’s remains reposed at his residence in Burris, Manulla, Castlebar, on Sunday, June 23, from 4 until 6pm. The removal of his remains took place on Monday morning at 10.30 for Requiem Mass at 11am in St Joseph’s Church, Keelogues, Ballyvary. Burial ceremonies took place afterwards in Keelogues Cemetery. The latest Manulla FC lotto draw was held on Sunday, June 30, for a massive jackpot of €15,000. The numbers drawn the previous week were 3, 5, 21 and 29. There was no jackpot winner. Congratulations to Phillip Griffith from Manulla FC U12 Boys who took gold in the All Ireland 600m and bronze in the long jump recently. It was an amazing achievement to win 2 All Ireland medals. Well done Phillip, the club are all very proud of your success.
Manulla FC has extended profound thanks to all wonderful children who were out and about at the shops in Castlebar and Balla raising vital funds for the development of Manulla FC youths teams. Sincere thanks to all who donated and supported the worthy cause.
Manulla FC Summer Camp will take place from the 19th to the 23rd of August this summer. The camp will run daily from 10.30am to 2.30pm. The Camp will be suitable for boys and girls aged between 6 and 14 years of age. The fees are 2 child, €60, 2 children, €110 and 3 children €160. Mayo County Council invite submissions from community groups, residents associations, schools, Tidy Town committees or other organisations who are interested in receiving funding to co-fund public education and awareness initiatives against litter or graffiti. Grow is a mental health support program based on lived experience. This mean Grow groups are a meeting of peers, who are striving to develop and maintain good mental health.

This will give you an introduction to how meetings work and an opportunity to ask questions. You can also search for a group close by to you by using Find a Group and just turning up. The Coillte Come Home festival will be held in Kiltimagh next week with lots of entertainment to suit all ages, starting off with the popular Inter Pub Quiz on Thursday, July 11, at 9.30pm. A street busking competition will take place on Friday evening with the official festival opening and fireworks extravaganza in the festival field from 10.45pm.
Saturday, July 13, is the Race2Glory event which sees athletes from all over the country taking part each year. Saturday night live on Main Street will be The High Stool Prophets from 9.30pm preceded by support band Ríl Óg from 8pm. Sunday it’s Soccer World Cup in Kiltimagh Knock United, Family Fun Day with kiddies tractor run from 12.30pm. Sunday night live on Main Street, a ‘big welcome back’ awaits The Tumbling Paddies who will be on stage from 9.30pm, joined by champion Irish dance group Croí na hEireann. Murray’s Funfair will be in the Festival Field throughout the festival which ends on Monday, July 15, with the Coillte Golf Cup competition at Balla Golf Club.

Enable Ireland Mayo Services require volunteers in all areas of County Mayo to work with children with a disability.
