Local Notes: Long-serving Aldi staff member says farewell to Claremorris

After 16 years of service in Aldi in Claremorris, Lukasz Ostrowski and his family will return to his native Poland. Lukasz will be sadly missed by all the staff at Aldi Claremorris. Claremorris Town Hall has announced that an Elvis production is coming to the venue. The Elvis Years, led by original West End lead Mario Kombou, will come to Claremorris on October 11. Tickets are on sale now through the town hall’s website.
Congratulations to Transition Year students Sophie Pilbrow who was named Student of the Year for 2024 and Leah Naughton who won the Ray Leonard Award for Musical Performance.
The TY students also received their Electronic Portfolio assessment awards at their TY graduation and certs for courses they completed throughout the year: First Aid, Volleyball Coaching, Gaisce and external job interview feedback.

Music teacher Ms Siobhán Shaughnessy and musical director Eleanoir Cazaboin-Regan shared the news with a delighted group of students!The Connacht Minor Football Final Man of the Match award went to Claremorris’ David Hurley. This marks the third consecutive year the accolade has gone to a Claremorris man.

Congratulations to Fintan Jennings who won the Claremorris GAA 50/50 draw on May 25, taking home the prize money of €705. The winning ticket was sold in Wardes.
St Colman’s College Deputy Principal Ms Maria Byrne was the winner of a recent College Lotto. She won a €50 Claremorris shopping voucher kindly sponsored by St Colman's Credit Union.
St Colman’s College congratulated members of the Mayo minor panel on their recent Connacht Football Final victory, particularly captain Tom Hession, vice-captain Mark Noonan, Man of the Match David Hurley and Dara Flanagan, who are all students at the school.

It was a night to remember for Claremorris Colts RFC as the rugby club fittingly celebrated its 15th anniversary at a Gala Awards Banquet at the McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris recently.
Among the highlights were the series of trophy and medal presentations to underage and adult teams followed by an intensely interactive auction, bringing the event to an exciting climax.
An all-ages disco brought the memorable night to a successful conclusion.

Congratulations to Patrick Sweeney who won Night Two of the Claremorris Darts Summer Singles, defeating Martin Heneghan in the final. Night Three will be played this Friday, June 7.

Claremorris Community Radio has been awarded €35,608 through Coimisiún na Meán's Broadcasting Fund Sound and Vision Scheme.
Minister Alan Dillon said: “In Mayo, where local media serves as the heartbeat of our community, this funding will empower broadcasters to deliver quality content that resonates with and reflects the unique identity of our residents.
“It will enable our local broadcasters in Mayo to not only continue their excellent work but also to expand their reach and impact, ensuring that every segment of our community is heard.”
A three-week creative class course with Sue Stanley will take place in Cúram Family Centre on Wednesday afternoons (2pm-4pm), the week commencing June 12. The cost is €35 which includes all materials. Booking is essential on 094-9362096.
Claremorris Men’s Shed are selling bags of dry kindle wood blocks - €5 a bag. All proceeds received go back into the Men's Shed.
Claremorris Boys NS are taking part in the IncredibleEdibles programme. The aim of the project is to educate students about growing fruits and vegetables. Volunteers from every class have planted and cared for the seedlings and plants. The students are looking forward to harvesting.
Claremorris AFC will host a donations day every Saturday and Sunday morning for the month of June (10am to 12 noon). The container at the top training pitch will be open for donations of saleable items.
The money raised will go towards the purchase of new containers that will be converted into home and away dressing rooms at the top pitch.
Congratulations to Naoise O’Reilly who won the recent Claremorris AFC 50/50 Lotto - taking home the prize money of €321.
Claremorris Parkrun thanked all who joined them from near and far for its 289th run. Congratulations to those of you who participated for the first time and thanks to the volunteers and to Hegarty's Centra Claremorris as always, for their post-parkrun water, fruit, and treats.
