Ballinrobe LGFA players Michaela, Caoimhe and Laoise are all set to enjoy the St Patrick's Day parade in Ballinrobe.
A Dementia Café for people living with dementia, and family carers, will take place on Tuesday, May 6, from 11am to 1pm in the Tacú Family Resource Centre. The café provides a warm welcoming place for people to meet others living with dementia/cognitive impairments, their carers and health and social care professionals.

The Cancer Society of Ireland need volunteers for Daffodil Day which takes place next Friday, March 28. Daffodil Day runs from 8am to 8pm and is in aid of Irish Cancer Society. Those wishing to volunteer an hour or two next Friday by selling merchandise for this worthy cause, are asked to contact Bridie at 087 2476322. Volunteers will be selling the fund-raising merchandise at prominent locations in Ballinrobe and your support would be greatly appreciated. Cong Moytura Heritage Society will hold a lecture by Ed Ryan entitled '100 Years of An Garda Síochána in Ireland and Cong' which will take place in the Crossroads Community Centre, Cong, F31 Y97 on Thursday, March 27, at 8pm. This will be an interesting talk from a retired Garda and Cross native on the formation on An Garda Síochána. This is a free talk, and refreshments will be served afterwards.
Agnes O’Connor was the winner of €50 in last week’s 50/50 draw conducted by the Tacú Family Resource Centre.

An Easter Junior Golf Competition for children aged 8-13 will take place at Ballinrobe Golf Club from April 15 to April 17, running from 9.30am to 12.30pm daily. The cost to take part is €60 per-child. Children taking part will learn how to swing the golf club like a professional, master chipping, putting and the perfect golf grip. Ballinrobe Town AFC will hold a Music Bingo social night in Flannery’s Bar and Restaurant, Cornmarket, on Saturday, April 26. Music bingo works in a similar fashion to regular bingo, except instead of numbers the host DJ plays one-minute clips of popular songs and participants tick the songs off on their bingo cards. Ballinrobe Town AFC is currently seeking unused club football kits or football boots in good condition, that can be donated to the club and can be passed on to other playing members of the club. The items can be left into the Tacú Family Resource Centre, Main Street, or the Maple Youth Centre, Bowgate Street. Your support for this initiative would be appreciated.
Congratulations to the Ballinrobe Town U14 girls’ team on their terrific 4-3 victory against Skyvalley Rovers, in the quarter-final of the Connacht Shield. This seven-goal thriller was played at The Green, on Saturday, March 15. Well done to all involved.
There was no winner of the €26,100 lotto jackpot draw which was held on St Patrick’s Day. The numbers drawn were 5, 6, 15 and 26. The match three winners (€100) were John Gilrane and Maria O’Loughlin.
Ballinrobe will host Shrule/Glencorrib next Friday, March 28, in what should be an intriguing South Mayo O’Mara Cup clash. The game will take place in Flanagan Park, and is scheduled to throw-in at 8pm.

There was no winner of the €7,400 lotto jackpot draw which was held in Garrymore, on Sunday, March 16. The numbers drawn were 3, 14, 15 and 17. The €50 winners were Declan Nevin, Bushfield; Sarah Crowe, Curraghadooey, and Pat Hession, Frenchgrove.
Last Sunday night’s draw marked the 30th Anniversary of the first Garrymore GAA Club lotto draw. To celebrate, Garrymore GAA Club doubled the number of prizes for the draw on March 23, with six winners of €50 each. The results will be in next week’s edition.

Islandeady Community Council is organising the next Community Litter Pick for the weekend of March 28, 29 and 30, in conjunction with the National ‘Spring into Action’ campaign. Community members would really appreciate if the help and co-operation of everyone to collect litter in their own area as they believe that litter ‘creates more litter’ and frequent litter-picking and vigilance appears to be a deterrent in some areas. Litter picked over that weekend can be left in the GAA car park on Sunday evening, March 30, to minimise interference by birds etc, for collection on Monday morning. All help and support is greatly appreciated on behalf of the whole community.
On Good Friday, April 18, at 9pm, a special card game in aid of Islandeady Community Centre, will be facilitated by the excellent Monday night team of Bernie, Breege and John assisted by community council members. 1st prize is 150 Euro, 2nd 100Euro and 3rd 50 . There will be a raffle with lots of spot prizes on the night. Doors open at 8.30pm. Admission is 10. Everybody is welcome to join and bring a friend. A bumper night and not to be missed.
The Islandeady Cycling Club will host it's annual 'Spin for Brendan' cycle on Sunday, April 13, at 9.30am at Jacks Old Cottage, Islandeady. The cycle has two new exciting routes, a 40km and 80km, both taking in the beautiful Mayo countryside. It is €25 to register on the day from 8.30am or on eventmaster.ie. All proceeds go to Islandeady Cycling Club and Snugboro United Football Club. After the cycle, enjoy a friendly chat with some tasty refreshments served at Jack's Old Cottage.
Islandeady Community were very proud to see their GAA Club & Men’s Shed participate in this year’s parade in Castlebar. Fantastic to see so many wonderful young people especially, proudly march displaying their club colours, along with their coaches, trainers, parents and supporters. Sincere thanks to everyone for coming together and making their first parade such a success, also to the Men’s Shed for their wonderful float, constructed over the past few weeks and proudly displaying their skills, talent and unity of a group working together for the benefit of all. Onlookers were proud to see their community represented on such an important day.
Islandeady Walk Group are back in action. The group met recently and have great plans for the coming year. With very positive feedback from last year’s participants the group are presently developing some maps outlining agreed walks, which will be available to view on the usual media outlets and on printed leaflets. The group have also decided to plan flexible routes in advance which will allow participants select suitable walks, dates and distance. Their first walk is planned for Monday, April 7. This will be a short ‘catch-up’ walk to suit all, approx 3km meeting at Key West and walking the Newport Rd via Cornanool and back to Key West.
For the six Fridays of Lent and Good Friday there will be a lay-led service and communion in both Glenisland and Islandeady Churches. All welcome on Friday evening at 7pm during Lent. The National Eucharistic Adoration pilgrimage to Knock will take place on Sunday, April 6. Fr Benny McHale will continue his 4-night programme on Volume 2 of Luke’s New Testament writing, the ‘Acts of the Apostles’, which will be read during the Easter season. No previous knowledge required, and bibles will be provided. The course continues on Wednesday, March 26, April 2 and 9, from 7.30pm – 9.30pm in the Prayer Centre, Knock Shrine. Places limited.
