Pretty Knockmore wedding

Congratulations to Sinead Gaughan, daughter of Michael James and Josephine Gaughan, Lisaniska, Knockmore and Brendan Kenny, Drumlish, who were married in a lovely ceremony in Christ the King Church, Knockmore on Saturday, July 5. Bridesmaid was Georgina Bedkin and best man was Robert Writton. The ceremony was performed by Fr Michael Reilly and was attended by a large number of family, relatives and friends. Both Sinead and Brendan are wished every happiness and every blessing for their future years together.

Michael books his place in Fleadh 2025

Congratulations to Michael McHale, Carravaneen, who qualified in several competitions for the All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil to be held later in Wexford. He won both the flute slow airs and tin whistle slow airs in U12’s and 2nd in flute at the Connacht final held in Ballinasloe on Saturday last. Well done Michael.

Crossmolina

Crossmolina Nephin Festival 

Crossmolina Nephin Festival kicks off this Wednesday, July 16, to Sunday, July 20. There are lots of exciting new events this year and it kicks off in the Town Hall, Crossmolina, with arts and crafts for all children followed at 8pm when Church Street will be turned into a Street Fest with loads of food treats, live music, an evening of fun and dancing for the whole family. Music will be by Joanne Gallagher and Connell Bullshot rides again.

On Thursday the Jiving juniors and puppet show are in the library. Traders race takes place in Chapel Street at 7pm with all the local traders taking part. The event is sponsored by Nathan Valley Fire Logs.

On Friday 18, the children’s disco in the Town Hall in the afternoon, and an afternoon tea dance, with music by The Duets in the Upper Deck in Hineys, when all the senior citizens will be treated to food and dancing for the afternoon. Friday night the famous Ruaile Bualie will play live in the Upper Deck, Hineys.

Saturday sees the jigsaw jamboree and the jersey night at all the pubs in Crossmolina.

On Sunday, there is a special folk rock community Mass with Archbishop Francis Duffy being the main celebrant. ‘Join us for a spirit filled Gospel Mass as we lift our voices and hearts by the gospel choir, as they bring a unique vibrancy into the liturgy where voices rise and hearts are lifted’ said Fr Francis Judge. After Mass the battle of the balls takes place. All downhill from here and then Sunday evening at 8pm there is the drama night to close the festival with a bit of fun with over 40 people taking part. This is a sold out performance.

All Ireland U10 draughts champions

Congratulations to the Kilmurry U10 Draughts team who won the Community Games All Ireland in Kilkenny last weekend. The gold medal winners are: Eimear Heffernan, Daniel Loftus, Tiernan Lynn, John O’Boyle, Michael O’Boyle, Erin Ruane and Tomás Ruane.

Pauline scoops the jackpot 

Congratulations to Pauline Rowland, Enniscoe Castlehill, Crossmolina, who was the winner of the Crossmolina Deel-Rovers GAA Club lotto jackpot on Saturday, July 5, when she matched the numbers 7, 16, 20 and 28. The jackpot for the draw which was held on Saturday, July 12, reverted to €3,000.

North Minor final

Crossmolina retained the North Mayo U18 Minor A Championship sponsored by the Junction Restaurant Ballina at a sunny Knockmore on Tuesday last. Crossmolina lead at half time by 4-10 to Ardnaree 1-4. A much better second half second half display from the Ardnaree boys insured a great contest with both sides scoring great goals and points. In the end the Deel-Siders were comfortable winners with a final score of 7-14 to 2-15.

GAA fundraiser

Next Friday night's Battle of the Clubs Lip Sync fundraising event organised in conjunction with Ballina Salmon Festival will this year have a local Ardagh angle. Four well known and hugely popular local community representatives - Dolores O'Boyle, Breege Kelly, Dermot O'Boyle and Martin Carr will strut their stuff on stage under the banner, "Ardagh Vision", in the novel festival event. It promises to be a night full of fun and frolics as a host of local organisations vie for the title in aid of their local club or organisation. All four Ardagh participants are no strangers to the stage having enthralled countless audiences in various comedy sketches over the years as part of Ardagh Community Players. Dolores and Breege will represent Ardagh Community Players, Dermot (Ardagh Community Centre) while Martin will don his Ardagh GAA hat. All proceeds from their comical efforts will go directly to Ardagh GAA Club's fundraising efforts in building a state of the art gymnasium and meeting rooms currently under construction. The club has opened an idonate page which can be accessed at https://www.idonate.ie/crowdfunder/ArdaghGaa and every euro raised will go towards an invaluable community facility.

Lotto winners

There was no outright winner of Ardagh GAA Club's monthly lotto draw held last week. Numbers drawn were, 3, 2, 29 and 30. Lucky €50 winners were Criona Durkan and Breege Flynn (online). Congratulations to both winners. The lotto is a vital means of raising necessary finance for the club. 

Ladies title

Congratulations to MacHale Rovers U16 B team who won the Mayo Cup final at Bekan last weekend and to Ella Connell who won the Player of the Match award. A neat double achievement. 

GAA results

Ardagh B team were overpowered by a strong Castlebar Mitchels side in the county senior league last week on a 0-6 to 1-13 scoreline. Meanwhile, Ardmoy U16 team had the better of neighbours Knockmore in the county U16 league on a 5-10 to 4-9 scoreline.
