National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church in Ireland presentation.

Lyn McDermott from the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church in Ireland will deliver a presentation on the new policy document, A Safe and Welcoming Church Safeguarding Children Policy and Standards for the Catholic Church in Ireland, 2024 in the Newman Institute, Ballina with registration at 6.30pm. This new policy document was launched and deemed effective on June 11, 2024.https://www.safeguarding.ie/policy-guidance/policy-document. All clergy together with their local safeguarding representatives and any staff members who have a role with children involved in church activities are invited to attend. The presentation will start at 7pm and will conclude at approximately 8.15pm and light refreshments will be served.

Car Boot sale

Crossmolina Agricultural Show is hosting a car boot sale on Sunday, November 17, from 8am – 3pm at Crossmolina Business Park F26 TOV2. The cost is €10 car / €15 van / €20 larger vehicle. Free public admission and there is no need to book.

Community Bus

Crossmolina Community Council are looking to offer their community bus to a wider section of the local population. The bus is an essential commodity for the community and it is in the interest of all to keep it running. They are trying to expand the Wednesday service, which currently runs from 12.30pm to 3.30pm weekly. The service can be used to attend the doctor, pharmacy, hairdresser, the library or any other need you may have. It is a great chance to meet a friend for lunch or shopping. If there is sufficient uptake the service could be made official through Local Link and be free for pensioners. Currently the rate is €5 return. Connacht Club Championship

Next Sunday, November 17, Crossmolina Deel-Rovers Intermediate team will take on the Galway Champions either Caltra or St Michaels in the first round of the Connacht Club Championship in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park. This is a big occasion for the club after their county final success a few weeks ago and hope the parish will again flock to the county town to cheer on this very young team.

The Vigil Mass on Saturday evening, November 1, was offered for all who died in the past year from the Knockmore area. Funeral Mass

Social Camogie

Social Camogie continues for the next number of weeks at Ardagh Community Centre astroturf every Sunday evening from 5-6pm. This is an evenly paced social gathering aimed at participants who wish to pick up some camogie skills while at the same time enjoy some fitness and fun. The organisers urge new members to come along and stress they will not be disappointed.

Nuptials

Congratulations to Danielle Kelly and Ardagh and Mayo senior footballer James Carr who were married last week in St. Tiernan's Church, Crossmolina, where they were joined by a large number of family and friends. Their reception was held afterwards in Knockranny Hotel, Westport. Both Danielle and James are wished a lifetime of health and happiness.

U21 championship

By the time this column is published Ardmoy MacHales will have played Erris St. Pat's in the quarter-final of the Mayo U21 B Championship. To date the team has displayed great composure and resilience with earlier victories over Carras, (Carramore/Hollymount), and Balla. Let's hope the winning sequence continues.

Dancing

Social Dance classes with Gina Laffey continue in Ardagh Community Centre every Wednesday evenings from 8-9pm with practice until 9.30pm. Waltzing, jiving, foxtrot, quickstep and line dancing. Come solo or bring a friend/partner. Cost €10 per night payable at door. Suitable for all ages. Please bring a bottle of water.

November Masses

November envelopes are placed at the back of the church and households are encouraged to take one and fill in the names of their deceased so that they can be remembered at all Masses during the month.
