Kiltimagh GAA has been accepted into the Irish Life GAA Healthy Clubs Programme and is launching the initiative to coincide with its annual Family Day on Sunday next, September 8th.
The club invites the community to Gilmartin Park for the launch of the initiative. Amongst the excitement will be football blitz competitions for national school children who are club members. The Flannery Cup will be contested by teams made up of national school children in first and second class. The Mulhern Cup will be contested between children in third and fourth class and the Charlton Cup is for children in fifth and sixth class.
The event will run between 3 and 6pm and includes a barbecue. Admission is free and all are welcome.
The club’s dedicated team dealing with the Healthy Clubs Programme is Karen Forkan-Burke, Carmel Bigley, Sinead Guinnelly, Sarah Lavelle, Ger McNicholas, John Hession and Niall Mulderrig.
The GAA Healthy Clubs Programme aims to help clubs support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve. Clubs like Kiltimagh GAA already contribute to the health and well-being of their members by providing opportunities to develop their physical, social, emotional and psychological health.
The Healthy Clubs Programme aims to help clubs identify what they are already doing well, identify areas where they can or would like to improve, and empower them to ensure that everyone who engages with their club benefits from the experience in a health-enhancing way, be they players, officers, coaches, parents, supporters, or members of their local community.
Healthy Clubs recognise health and well-being as a core value; one that is everyone’s responsibility with everyone having a role to play. They view health as something holistic that involves physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being. They seek to make their club setting/environment as healthy as possible and set a good example through their practices, policies, and partnerships.
Healthy Clubs aim to extend their positive influence beyond their membership and games, are inclusive, and aim to offer people of all abilities and backgrounds the opportunity to participate in the club in a meaningful way throughout their lifespan. They are not expected to do everything themselves but instead work in partnership to build stronger, more connected communities. The Healthy Club initiative is promoted by the GAA nationally and offers three levels of club status depending on delivery.
As part of the Healthy Club Programme, Kiltimagh GAA is introducing a ‘No Smoke - No Vape' policy for the club and its grounds. This aims to protect the health of club members, visitors and the wider community by minimising their exposure to tobacco-related harm, including second-hand smoke. It will also help to reduce the initiation of smoking or vaping among young people.
The club asks all visitors to the grounds to adhere to the ‘No Smoke - No Vape' policy.
Kiltimagh GAA Club plans to have its new pitch and stand opened next May. The pitch was re-seeded this year and is not suitable to play on until then. The stand has 242 seats, and with the terraces, the ground should be able to hold a few thousand spectators.
Congratulations to Luke Bennett, Kiltimagh, winner of €339 in last week's Kiltimagh Knock United lotto draw.
The club would like to thank all who support their weekly fundraiser. Tickets are available online at www.lottoraiser.ie and from most local retail outlets.
