Erris Pool league

Ed Holmes is crowned Champion of Erris for the third time. Congratulations to Ed Holmes who added more crystal to his collection with a flawless day of pool where he was only really tested in the final by his brother Colin. Both Ed and Colin had little trouble in reaching the final as between them they only dropped eight frames in total as they breezed through to meet each other in the final for the first time.

In a high quality final Ed came out on top with the key moment coming in the tenth frame when Colin missed a black to level the score at five frames apiece. Ed took the next frame with another excellent finish and was soon picking up the cup for the third time in six years.

Sean Noone and Pat McGowan were the beaten semi-finalists as both players came through some tough ties to reach that stage.

Thanks to all in Tra Bhui for their hospitality on the day and especially to Colin for having the tables in pristine condition; to Healy Amusements for their sponsorship of the event and to Ryan Gallagher for streaming during the day. Finally thanks to each and every player that entered in what turned out to be a real high quality field with some excellent matches taking place throughout the day.

Kiltane Tavern is the 2024/25 Shield champions with a 10-7 win over Connolly’s recently. The final had been delayed from last year due to unforeseen circumstances but it was finished with Kitty’s coming from 5-4 down to win 6-2 on the night. Congratulations to all in the Kiltane Tavern and thanks to both teams for putting the effort in to getting the match played.

Success at Erris Family and Community Support Centre joins the National FRC programme

Erris Family and Community Support Centre (FCSC) is delighted to announce its formal inclusion in the National Family Resource Centre Programme, as announced by Minister Norma Foley and her party colleague Minister Dara Calleary last week. This marks a significant milestone for the project following a strategic and long-term campaign. The establishment and recognition of Erris FCSC within the National Programme represents a new chapter - one that provides structure, support, and renewed hope for families and individuals across the region.

Being part of the National Programme provides greater security, sustainability and opportunities for increased access to resources. It also connects Erris FCSC to a vibrant network of 136 Family Resource Centres (FRCs) across Ireland – a collective dedicated to sharing knowledge, supporting one another, and learning together to strengthen families and communities nationwide. The announcement comes three years after the initial steering committee were allocated annual core funding by the then CEO of Tusla, Mr. Bernard Gloster.

Since its establishment in 2023, the centre has worked from a combined model of family support and community development and aligns with the priorities of the FRC National Forum and its funder Tusla-The Child and Family Agency, particularly regards prevention and early intervention. At the heart of Erris FCSC’s work are community development values and principles - collective action, community empowerment, social justice, sustainable development, human rights, and participation – values which lie at the core of both the national network and of Erris FCSC’s own mission locally.

The Family Resource Centre Programme is Ireland’s largest family and community support programme, funded by Tusla- the Child and Family Agency under the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth. Admission to the programme recognises the established role of Erris Family and Community Support Centre as a trusted and necessary resource for the local community.
