Cloonacool Players' latest production John B. Keane's hilarious comedy 'Moll' takes to the stage in Cloonacool on Friday, February 21, Saturday 22 and Sunday 23. The cast which includes the ever-popular Tom Towey and Mary Kathleen Johnston, are on excellent form as too are Dennis Ross and Martin McIntyre. So, keep that weekend free to take your seats, sit back and laugh the night away.

Congratulations Natasha

Mayo Karate Academy is so proud to announce that Natasha Reddington has been selected to represent Ireland and will compete at the European Championships in Poland in February. Natasha makes history as the first homegrown athlete of Mayo Karate Academy to be on the Ireland Team. Congratulations Natasha.

Couch to 5k

Swinford AC Couch to 5K program starts on Tuesday, January 14. All options catered for, walkers, joggers, plodders and runners. Registration from 6.30pm at Swinford Amenity Park.

Swinford FC

KCC 50/50 draw

Congratulations to Joe Parsons who won €800 with Iseult Kerviche and Sarah Scully winning a €100 spot prize each in the December Killasser Community Centre 50/50 draw. The January draw takes place on Friday, January 31. The committee extends their thanks for your support throughout 2024.

Golf Club 25 Drive

Results from the games played on Thursday, January 2; card winners Martin McNeela, Marty Munnelly, Michael O’Neill, Michael Ryan, Ann Rowley and Geraldine Turbitt. Raffle prizes were won by Esther Munnelly, Philip Irwin, Patricia Rowley and Annie McNeela. The game continues every Thursday night at 9pm.

Lotto

The numbers drawn in the Swinford Community Lotto draw held on January 6, were 19, 20, 23 and 24. There was no jackpot winner. €70 vouchers were won by Lavelles, Kiltimagh and Mellett's Staff, Swinford; €35 was won by Michael Neary, c/o Moore's. The jackpot is now €20,000.

Thank You Paddy

Paddy McNulty, Electrician has been faithfully storing, restoring, maintaining and erecting the Christmas Lights in Swinford for almost an incredible 50 years – since 1978. It is only fitting that this is hugely acknowledged. The present committee and indeed all who have been involved over the years sincerely thank Paddy for his unbroken commitment to the town. He and his good wife Kitty more than deserve a huge thank you from both the residents and businesspeople of Swinford. A huge thanks must also go to his teams of helpers. Christmas lights add immensely to the festive season and once again thanks must go to all who graciously contribute every year. Long may it continue. ‘Paddy McNulty one of the all-time greats. Wishing you and Kitty a long and happy retirement and the very best of luck for the future’, said Joe Mellett, Tom Lavin, Kevin Nestor and Marie Mellett.

The late Rose Callaghan

The death took place of Rose Callaghan, Derry, Tavrane, Kilkelly, on Friday, January 3, peacefully in Mayo University Hospital. Castlebar, surrounded by her family. Rose was (Rose Fahey) and a native of Ballydaff, Taugheen, Claremorris.

Rose was very dedicated to her husband Tom, her daughters Annmarie, Michelle, Niamh and Louise and son Michael, her eight grandchildren, brothers Tommie, Liam and Michael, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law; sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and her wide circle of friends.

Rose was a lady who was very dedicated, hard working, honest, kind and warm hearted. She always made time in her busy schedule to fit in family, community, prayer or whatever. If Rose gave you her word she would ful fill her promise to you. Her endearing smile and words of encouragement spoke volumes as to her character. The practice of her faith was very important to her.

Rose reposed in the Marian Funeral Home, Knock on Sunday, January 5, with removal from the family home on Monday, January 6, to St. Patrick's Church, Glann for Mass at 1pm followed by interment in Urlaur cemetery. May Rose rest in peace as deepest sympathy is extended to all who mourn her passing.

The late Kathleen Lavin

The death took place of Kathleen Lavin, Ardcull, Ballaghaderreen, on January 4, surrounded by her family in Drumderrig Nursing Home, Boyle, County Roscommon. Kathleen (nee Waldron) was a native of Erritt, Carrowbehy, Castlerea, Co Roscommon was born on January 3, 1933. She attended the local Gorthaganny NS and at the young age of 15 she emigrated to the UK.

She met her future husband Joe Lavin, a native of Ardcull, Ballaghaderreen, and they married in the UK on January 2, 1965. In1968 they returned to Ireland and settled in Ardcull where they raised their four children - daughter Annette (Hanley) and three sons James, Joe and Eugene. Kathleen and Joe took immense pride in their children but the death of her husband Joe at a young age changed life for Kathleen as she now had to act as both parents to her young children.

Kathleen was a lady of deep faith and never gave up on life and this sense of faith and determination saw her through the tough times ahead. Kathleen loved playing cards, watching snooker on TV, and being involved in her local community. She was always available to lend a helping hand or word of advice to anyone who needed it.

Kathleen is survived by her daughter Annette (Hanley), sons James, Joe and Eugene, grandchildren Ryan, Chloe, Katelyn, Ava, Mark, Jamie, Rebecca and Keith, great-grandchildren Jax and Jace, son-in-law Pat, daughters-in-law Anne Marie and Liz and James’ partner Agnes, sister Eileen (Coen), sisters-in-law Kathleen (Duffy) and Peggy (Neary), nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and many friends.

Kathleen reposed in The Sharkey Funeral Home, Ballaghaderreen, on Monday, January 6.

Removal took place from her home on Tuesday, January 7, to The Church of the Sacred Heart, Brusna, arriving for Mass of the Resurrection at 12 noon, followed by interment in Naomh Mobhí Cemetery. May Kathleen rest in peace. Sympathy is extended to all who mourn her passing.

The death occurred of Jimmy Conlon, Toughnane, on Thursday, January 2. His remains were buried in St Joseph's Cemetery on Sunday, January 5. He was father of Gerry Conlon, Toughnane; Anne Dingerkus, Ardacarra, who died on Thursday, January 2. Her remains were buried in St Joseph's Cemetery on Monday, January 6. She was wife of Herbert and mother of Isolde and Karina, Ardacarra; Michael Gaffney, Baltinglass, Co Wicklow, and formerly of Foxford, who died on Friday, December 27, and whose funeral took place in Baltinglass on Monday, December 30. He was the husband of Kathleen, née O’Brien, Rathruane, and the brother-in-law of Martin O’Brien, Rathruane. Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved.

Moy Davitts 50/50 draw
