Swinford Laundry

Swinford Laundry opened its doors in 1925. To commemorate its 100th anniversary, it is proposed to compile a history of the facility to include photos and a list of all who worked there from its inception until it closed in 1975.

Golf News

The Men’s Spring League is continuing in Swinford Golf Club, concluding on Easter Sunday. It is an 18-hole Stableford each round, and the best three scores from four weeks will count. Each team member must contribute at least one score.

Swinford Golf Club is delighted to be running the popular ladies' beginners programme again this year, commencing on Wednesday, April 16, for six weeks every Wednesday from 7 to 8pm (depending on numbers). The club is also looking for club members to lend a hand during the evenings — if you can help, contact any committee member. This is always a great way to welcome new faces to the club and please support if you can.

Thanks to everyone who took part in the recent Swinford Golf Club Players’ Sweep. A big congratulations to Francisco, who claimed the €400 first prize. All proceeds are going towards the installation of a driving bay, which will be a great addition for members heading into the summer season. A Masters Sweep will be launched shortly - keep an eye out for details.

The Golf Interclub season will commence shortly and Swinford Golf Club have a busy few matches lined up: Jack O’Sullivan – Swinford v Ballina, Cecil Ewing – Claremorris v Swinford, Men’s 9-Hole Interclub – Swinford v Mulranny, Connacht Shield – Swinford v Tubbercurry, Fred Perry – Ballinrobe v Swinford. Best of luck to all involved.

Swinford Golf Club’s popular Junior Golf programme will be returning this season, with sessions expected to begin towards the end of April or the start of May. Details are currently being finalised. It's a great way to get young players involved and enjoying the game early - the club are looking forward to another strong turnout.

The results of the 18-hole stroke competition for men, held on the weekend of March 22/23, were: 1st, Liam Healy (66 nett) and 2nd, Tony Spain (after countback). 

Ladies Spring League (week 2 – front 9 stableford): 1st, Breege Spain and 2nd, Hilary McCrohan (after countback). Another countback finish. Fair play to both Breege and Hilary on a fine showing.

Card game

Results from the card game played on Thursday, March 27, in Swinford Golf Clubhouse: 1st, Jack Pidgeon and Philip Moore; 2nd, Michael Lynskey and Mary Lynskey; 3rd, Michael Regan and Leo Murtagh. 

Raffle prizes were won by Philip Moore, Detta Ryder, Maureen Morley x 3, John Gallagher and Philip Irwin. 

Lotto

The numbers drawn in the Swinford Community Lotto draw, held on March 31, were 9, 13, 21 and 24. Congratulations to jackpot winner Breege Spain, Swinford. 

Vouchers worth €70 were won by Mary Reddington, c/o Moore's and Aiden Garrett, c/o Tara Café; €35 was won by Martin Doyle, Tullinacurra, Ken Spragg, Oak Drive, Swinford, Mairead Doherty, Charlestown and Nicola Muldowney, Rabawn. 

The jackpot in the latest draw held on April 7 was €3,000.

National Spring Clean

Swinford Tidy Towns are once again taking part in the National Spring Clean. The annual Good Friday Spring Clean will take place on Friday, April 18. If you would like to help out, meet at Swinford Courthouse at 11am. All help is appreciated.

Daffodil Day Thank You

Thank you is extended to everyone who supported and volunteered on Daffodil Day on Friday, March 28. A total of €10,900 was raised on the day in Swinford.

Gardening Club

Swinford Gardening Club's next talk will take place on Tuesday, April 22. The topic will be planting in the garden and tunnel/greenhouse. It will take place in the meeting room on Lower Main St at 8pm. Everyone is welcome to attend. Non-members entry fee is €5. 

Darkness into Light

Swinford will host the 2025 Darkness Into Light event on Saturday, May 10, starting at Swinford Community Centre at 4.15am. Online registration on www.darknessintolight.ie. Musicians or singers interested in performing at points along the route are asked to contact Cathal on 087-6412785.

Easter Egg Hunt

This year's Children’s Easter Sunday Egg Hunt will take place on Easter Sunday, April 20, in Brabazon Park as the wood is closed due to Storm Éowyn. Leave cars in the Amenity Park parking area and walk into Brabazon Park at the Kiltimagh Rd junction. The hunt starts at 2pm.

Meelick cards

The winners of the card game played in Meelick on Tuesday, March 25, were Michael Regan, Margaret Mannion, Brian McNulty, Mary Higgins, Peter Geraghty and Dette Ryder. Raffle prizes were won by Mary Higgins, Noreen Geraghty, Annie McNeela and Francie Rowley.

Spring Series

Swinford AC Spring Series continues with a 5km run and walk on Wednesday evenings as follows: April 9 - Meelick (F12EE09), April 16 -  Straide (F26D788), April 23 - Midfield (F12VE20), April 30 - Swinford (F12H593) and May 7 - Foxford (F26ND92). 

The cost is €5 per person, €10 per family. Registration each evening from 6.30pm with the run/walk starting at 7pm.

Bishop Kevin Doran installed

Bishop Kevin was installed as the Bishop of Achonry Diocese on Sunday, March 30, at the 3pm Mass in St Nathy’s Cathedral, Ballaghaderreen. He is wished well in his new appointment.

Kilmovee 10k and 5k Road Races
