Kaylan McHugh, Kilmovee Shamrocks U14 ladies team was presented the Player of the Match award from Mayo U14 coach Siobhan Conlon after a great performance in midfield during the Division 3 League Cup final.

Petanque Club

Gardening Club Talk

Swinford Gardening Club will host a gardening talk on Summer in the Garden on Tuesday, June 24, in the Meeting Room on Lower Main St at 8pm. Everyone is welcome to attend. The speaker will be happy to answer questions afterwards. Non-members cost €5.  Finally, the club thank each of the participating schools and, of course, to the pupils who eagerly competed in the challenges and made the event a resounding success.

KCC 50/50 draw

Congratulations to Brid Noone, who won €625 in the Killasser Community Centre May 50/50 draw with Emily O'Hara and Patrick Hyland winning €20 each.  The next draw takes place on July 6.

All hands-on deck is required to help prepare for the upcoming visit of the national Tidy Towns judges. Whether you're a business owner, resident, part of a sports club, or a member of a local organisation, your help is needed to make Swinford shine. There are plenty of tasks to tackle, from litter picking and weeding to painting and planting. Let's come together as a community to showcase all that Swinford has to offer. Together, a difference can be made and help Swinford town look its best for the judges.

Gardening Club trip

Swinford Gardening Club's next trip will take place on Saturday, July 5, and will include visits to the following places: Ballymoe Centre and Garden commemorating the famous Fr Flanagan of Boys Town USA fame; The Bogwood Sculpture Centre in Newtowncashel; The Corlea Iron Age Roadway and Visitor Centre; The Maria Edgeworth Centre, Edgeworthstown with the final destination Knights and Conquests Heritage Centre, Granard for an enjoyable interactive experience. Golf

Results of play for the weekend of June 14/15. A fine weekend of golf at Swinford saw the course offer up chances for scoring, but only the sharpest took full advantage. Women's Date O'Hara Cup - 18 Hole Stableford 1st Annie McNeela 40 points, 2nd Dympna O'Donnell 39 points and 3rd Margaret Mulligan 38 points.

In the Men's Guinness Cup - 18 Hole Stableford 1st James Irwin 44 points, 2nd Eric Hynes 42 points and 3rd Vincent Murtagh 41 points. James Irwin delivered the weekend’s standout performance: a gross 71, net 62, highlighted by an eagle on the 14th. Some shooting. Well done, James. Congratulations to all competitors and thanks to Burleigh Accountancy, the weekend’s generous sponsor.

GAA 50/50 draw

Congratulations to Tommy Quinn from Ballaghaderreen who won €400 in the Swinford GAA Club 50/50 draw.

Lotto

The numbers drawn in the Swinford Community Lotto draw held on June 16 were; 10, 20, 21 and 30. There was no jackpot winner. €70 vouchers were won by David Taylor, Swinford and K. Spragg, Oak Drive, Swinford; €35 was won by Ash and Callum, c/o Tara Café and Alan Forkan, Lislackagh. The jackpot is now €5,200.

Kilmovee Active Age Thursday Club

The Kilmovee Active Age Thursday Club takes place on Thursday from 11.30 am to 2.30pm in Kilmovee Community Centre. It is open to people 55 and upwards. A light lunch is served, and they provide light exercise and bingo. There is a €10 weekly admission and €12 annual membership fee.

Lego camp

The late Jack O’Hara

The death took place of Jack O'Hara Kiltobranks, Ballaghaderreen on June 15 peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a short illness. Jack was predeceased by his brothers Ollie and Luke, and he will be very sadly missed and remembered with love by his daughters Sinead and Bree, their partners Fintan and John, their mother Mary, grandchildren Bob, Paudi and Fionn, sisters May (Dublin), Joan (Kildare) and Frances (Dublin) and his extended family.

Jack reposed in The Kilgarriff Funeral Home, Ballaghaderreen, on Tuesday June 17, concluding with evening prayer at 7pm. His funeral arrived to Christ the King Church, Lisacul, for Mass of the Resurrection on Wednesday, June 18, at 12 noon. followed by interment in Lisacul cemetery.

The late Bríghid McIntyre (née Kelly)

The death has occurred of Bríghid McIntyre (née Kelly) Camden town, Charlestown and Ballaghaderreen peacefully at her home in London, surrounded by her family, following a long illness bravely borne. She was predeceased by her parents John and Nell Kelly (Lisacul/ Ballaghaderreen), husband Jimmy (Charlestown), and devoted friend and partner Seán Hogan (Croydon/Nenagh).

Bríghid is survived by her heartbroken children Joe (London), Eugene (Charlestown), James (Morocco) and Pearl (Charlestown), daughter-in-law Ann, son-in-law Tony, grandchildren Stephen, Laina, Amy, Lauren, Michelle, Justin and Luke, her extended family and very many neighbours and friends in Ireland and England who will miss her dearly.

Bríghid reposed in Horkan’s Funeral Home, Lowpark, Charlestown (F12 D393) on Thursday, June,12, with removal to nearby St. James’s Church, Charlestown, for prayers at 8pm. Funeral Mass was held at 12 noon in St James’s Church on Friday, June 13, followed by interment burial in adjoining cemetery. May she rest in peace as sympathy is offered to all bereaved by her passing.

Kilmovee Shamrocks ladies

Congratulations to the Kilmovee Shamrocks U14 ladies team, who overcame Tourmakeady by 2-07 to 1-03 in the Division 3 League Cup Final. Captain, Ella-Mai Hunt, was presented with the cup by Mayo U14 coach Siobhan Conlon and Kaylan McHugh was presented the player of the match award, after a great performance in midfield. There was no rest for the girls, as they welcomed Balla to Kilmovee yesterday Monday, for the first round of the B Championship in Canon Henry Park.

Lynda Hanley and the Mayo seniors had a disappointing loss to Kerry on Saturday, June 14, in Trallee. They faced Cork on Saturday, June 21, in a 'do or die' battle, as they bid to reach the knockout stage of the championship.

The senior team faced Burrishoole in the semi-final of the PJ Loftus Memorial League on Sunday, June 14, in Kilmovee. Having gone in four points up at half-time, 1-04 to 0-03, they encountered a revived Burrishoole side in the second half, who kept chipping away at the lead. Two goals in the last ten minutes wrapped up the contest, with the visitors earning a place in the final on a scoreline of 2-11 to 1-09.

The U16 team played Carnacon in the Division 2 League semi-final on Wednesday, June 18, in Kilmovee.

The U12 girls had a fantastic day out on Saturday, June 14, where they faced teams from Westport, Castlebar and Aghamore, in the county U12 blitz at the Centre of Excellence in Bekan. The girls put on three great displays, as the hard work they have put in all year paid dividends.

Mrs Mulligan retires

Mrs Teresa Mulligan, Principal of Bohola NS is retiring after 23 years of service as Principal of the school. A Mass of Thanksgiving, will be held in Bohola Parish Church on Friday, June 27, at 6.30pm. Refreshments will follow in the community centre afterwards. Everyone is welcome to attend.

This special celebration will be a lovely opportunity to come together in gratitude and reflection to celebrate Mrs Mulligan's tenure as principal of Bohola National School.
