The Gaelcholáiste Chomáin community extend their warmest congratulations to Madison Murphy, winner of this year’s Ailbhe Ní Ghearbháin Memorial Cup. Madison achieved the highest results in the 2025 Leaving Certificate examinations and is now pursuing her dream of studying Medicine at UCD. She is also a former student of S.N. Ros Dumhach, and she is wished all the best in her future studies.

As part of the St. John Paul II program, Transition Year and first year students went on a pilgrimage to Croagh Patrick recently with their teachers - Master Mac Philibín, Master Ó Muinghille and Master Cameron. The day was perfectly dry, apart from a brief rain shower, with beautiful views on all sides. Although it was challenging going up, they managed to get to the top of the mountain and really enjoyed the day.

Irish Whale and Dolphin Group

Well done to the thirty people who trained recently on the Mullet Peninsula with the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group. Blacksod Bay, right in the heart of the peninsula, is one of Ireland’s live stranding hotspots - already accounting for 37% of live stranded dolphins in 2025.

This was a real capacity-building course, with lots of new faces from the area training alongside seasoned responders who came to refresh their skills. Huge thanks to Catherine for co-instructing with live stranding coordinator Gemma and helping guide such a large group.

The weather just about held, giving us a great simulation of real conditions as wind and waves tested everyone while refloating our life-size dolphin models. It was brilliant to see everyone give it socks, get stuck in, and share plenty of good banter along the way.

Many thanks to Our Ladies Secondary School for so kindly hosting us for the classroom part of our course.
