Charity Cycle

On Saturday and Sunday next, September 7th and 8th, Seán Keane and many more friends from the Lisheen Cooneal Crossmolina Cycling Club will be undertaking a charity cycle from the Phoenix Park in Dublin to Crossmolina.

The journey will begin on Saturday in the Phoenix Park and brings cyclists to Roscommon where they will wait overnight before setting off again on Sunday morning and continuing until they reach their final destination of Crossmolina.

The cycle will all be in aid of two very worthy charities - MS Ireland and the Patient Comfort Fund at Ballina District Hospital, both very close to Sean's heart.

The participants would greatly appreciate any donations through their online GoFundMe account, which can be found on their East to West Facebook page. A bus and a van have been organised to leave Crossmolina on the Sunday morning at 7am to join the cycle from Roscommon for the last leg.

Defeat for Crossmolina

Crossmolina lost to Swinford by 3-10 to 1-12 in the Mayo U16 'C' Championship semi-final in Crossmolina

The Deel Rovers lads put in a very good performance to fight their way back after a poor start. There were four points in the opening 12 minutes from Swinford's Kian Rowley, Gavin Tuffy and Conor Kennedy with Ethan Reilly replying with a point for Crossmolina to leave the scores at 0-3 to 0-1.

However, Swinford's Hilton Biju drilled a low shot to the net in the 13th minute and minutes later Shay Durkan scored from the penalty spot for the East Mayo men. This woke up the hosts and Ethan Reilly scored two points while Dylan Lavelle and Aaron Donnellan had one each to narrow the margin. Aaron Keane grabbed 1-1 before half-time while Shay Durkan replied with three points to leave the interval score at 2-7 to 1-6.

Crossmolina started the second half with three points from Ethan Reilly and one from Dylan Lavelle but Swinford's Jack Loftus tacked on two points. Gavin Tuffy and Evan Molloy exchanged points before Cian McDonnell struck the killer score when he found the net for Swinford's third goal of the evening.

Ethan Reilly closed the scoring with a point to end a very entertaining game of open football on a lovely August evening.

Crossmolina: Georgie Gordetskyy, Aaron Rodrigues, Jack Heffernan, Joseph Howley, Joseph Loftus, Gavin Lavelle, Peadar Fergus, Tom Burke, Paul Granaghan, Ethan Reilly (0-7), Dylan Lavelle (0-2), Aaran Donnellan (0-1), Conor Howley, Brendan Donnelly, Aaron Keane (1-1). Subs: Dylan Keane for Brendan Donnelly, Evan Molloy (0-1) for Conor Howley, Jack Leonard for Aaron Keane.

Daria’s Day Care

This September, the children of Daria’s Day Care can look forward to exploring their newly refurbished outdoor play area.

The area has been revamped with brightly painted fencing and a roofed section that allows the children to explore, discover and have fun in a safe and stimulating outdoor environment.

The vision was only made possible by the hard work of JJ Heffron and the members of the Community Emplyoment Scheme. Their efforts this summer will ensure that the children of Daria’s Daycare will have a great year ahead, whatever the weather.

Thank you to AIB Community Fund and everyone in Moygownagh who took the time to vote for Daria’s Daycare for AIB funding for this work.

Michael Mulligan is deeply mourned

All associated with Moygownagh GAA are deeply saddened by the passing of Michael Mulligan, Killeenashask, Garranard, Ballina.

Mikie (as he was fondly known) was a much-valued and respected member of the community. He was held in high regard by all who knew him, as a very hard-working farmer, a good neighbour and a friend who could always be called upon in a time of need.

Mikie was a very sociable person and liked nothing better than to discuss at length the local and national politics and the ups and downs of Moygownagh and Mayo GAA. More recently, he joined the Moygownagh Ramblers and was a great addition to the group.

Mikie was widely regarded as one of the finest footballers to ever come from Moygownagh. His wife Rosaleen passed away a few years ago.

Condolence to Mikie’s sons James and Sean and his sister Mary.
