Iorras Aontaithe

The draw for round two of the FAI Junior Cup has Iorras Aontaithe at home to the Sligo side Cartron United on Sunday, October 15. Congratulations to the Erris Utd U14 squad and their managers David McDonnell and Declan Conmy on winning Division 2A in a very tense encounter at Carne Nash Park against Swinford on Saturday 30. These two sides were locked together going into this final play-off game, winner takes all. The opening half was a nervous affair but it wasn’t until the second half that Iorras began to impose themselves on the game going ahead ten minutes into the half from a penalty which James McDonnell dispatched with competent ease. Then six minutes later James scored his second after some excellent passing play.

But eight minutes later Jamie Ruddy scored one of the best individual goals that’s been scored at youth level at Carne Nash Park for some time, receiving the ball in midfield then racing into the final-third, shaking-off a number of challenges and scoring to the far corner – excellent finish. Then with seven minutes remaining David Healy scored to seal the league honours. 4-0 full time. Many thanks to James Lavelle of the Eagle Bar in Corclough West presenting sponsored tops to the senior squad recently.
