Culture Night 2025 

Ballinrobe Culture Night will take place in Ballinrobe Racecourse on Friday, September 19, from 7 to 9pm. The event will be a celebration of food and music from around the world.

The Tacú Family Resource Centre are inviting people to attend Culture Night and see the vibrant traditions of over 20 countries. Those attending can see traditional Irish music and dance and explore traditional crafts.

There will also be an opportunity to participate in creative workshops such as hair braiding, cultural face painting, and various family-friendly events for all ages.

Leaving Cert Class of 1995 reunion 

 A reunion of the Ballinrobe Community School Leaving Cert Class of 1995 is being held on Saturday, September 27th, in Ballinrobe.

All past pupils are invited to attend a Remembrance Mass in Ballinrobe Community School at 7pm followed by a 30-year reunion in Flannery’s Bar, Cornmarket at 8pm where there will be refreshments and music with DJ Chris.

All those who did their Leaving Cert in the school in 1995 are welcome to attend!

Tacú Family Resource Centre 

The Tacú Family Resource Centre, Main Street, is open Monday to Friday, from 9.30am to 4.30pm. The centre can also provide photocopying, laminating, use of computers, and help with forms etc.

The centre is also working on its autumn/winter schedule and updates will be provided on the centre’s Facebook page.

Bingo 

Bingo returns to the Parish Centre on Tuesday (tonight), September 2, at 8.30pm.

The organisers are looking forward to seeing all of the regular bingo players once again and new players are also welcome.

Bingo can also be played via Zoom and those seeking a link for the online game are asked to text/WhatsApp 087-4111343.

English classes 

English language classes take place in the Tacú Family Resource Centre on Mondays at 6.30pm and on Wednesdays from 10.15 to 11.15am and 12.15 to 1.15pm.

Groups return 

The Craft Mates and Knitting Group will return to the Tacú Centre later in September, after the summer break. 

Craft Mates will recommence on Wednesday, September 17, from 10.30am to 1pm. The ever-popular knitting group will resume on Friday, September 19, from 2 to 4pm.

Women’s Shed 

The Ballinrobe Women’s Shed Group meets every Monday from 11am to 1pm in the building adjacent to the Water Towers, Kilmaine Road, (Eircode F31 XK09). 

The group is open to women aged 18 and over. Those taking part can share their skills and talents, have a chat, and a cup of tea/coffee. New members are welcome.

Men’s Shed 

The Men’s Shed group meets every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 10am to 12.30pm in the building adjacent to the Water Towers, Kilmaine Road (Eircode F31 XK09).

This group is open to men aged 18 and over, with new members welcome. A range of activities take place including music, woodwork, pottery, gardening, and is also open to men who just want to call in for a chat and a cup of tea/coffee.

Maple Youth Centre 

The Maple Youth Centre, Bowgate Street, will soon recommence its activities for secondary school students. Students who are interested are asked to please call into the youth centre.

GAA Club Lotto

There was no winner of the €28,400 jackpot in the Ballinrobe GAA Club Lotto draw, which was held on Monday, August 25. The numbers drawn were 8, 29, 32 and 34.

There was no match three winner.

Great win for U-12 girls

Congratulations to the Ballinrobe Town U-12 girls (A) team who were crowned Division One League champions on Tuesday night last, after they recorded a 2-1 victory away to Conn Rangers. 

The team returned to Ballinrobe and did a victory lap of the town on what was a memorable occasion for the club.

Two days earlier, the U-12 girls (A) team booked their place in the Cup Final after defeating Castlebar Celtic 1-0 at The Green.

It has been a fantastic season so far for this team and they can now look forward to a cup final.

Rugby Club News 

The Rugby Club held its weekly 50/50 draw on Sunday, August 24th, with Deirdre McDermott the winner of €350.

Each ticket costs €2 or you can buy three tickets for €5. Tickets are also available in Martin Murphy’s Newsagent, Murphy’s Centra, McHugh’s Canteen, and M&B Dry Cleaners.

Ballinrobe Rugby Club would like to thank everyone who supports their weekly draw.

Congratulations to the club’s U-16 players Oisin Watson, Jack O’Toole, Caoimhín Murphy and Cathal Geoghan, who were part of the North Connacht rugby team which competed in the U-16 Interprovincial Development games in Portlaoise on Thursday, August 21st.

Garrymore GAA Draw

There was no winner of the €9,700 lotto jackpot in the lotto draw which was held in Garrymore on Sunday, August 24th. The numbers drawn were 4, 16, 18 and 26.

The €50 winners were Trevor Nally, Crossboyne; Kathleen Nally, Bushfield; and Tom Burke, Crossboyne.
