Local notes: Enniscrone transition year students organise Team Hope Shoe Box Appeal

Transition year students from Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, who organised the Team Hope shoe box appeal. In total 29 boxes were compiled with a broad range of items.
CCE Tireragh will be holding their annual Christmas concert on Thursday, December 28, at 7.30pm in Dromore West Community Centre. It will be an entertaining evening filled with lots of music, song and dance. All tickets will be entered into a draw for a hamper door prize. Refreshments will be served and there will also be a raffle on the night. Admission is €10 and your support will be appreciated.
West Sligo Family Resource Centre are accepting donations for the St Vincent de Paul food appeal until Tuesday, December 19. All donations will be very welcome.
The death has taken place of Tony Conway, Mowlam Nursing Home, Ballytivnan, Sligo Town and formerly of ‘Beach View’, Enniscrone, on December 5, peacefully in the loving care of the doctors, nurses and staff of Sligo University Hospital. Tony is predeceased by his parents Tom and Ellie. He will be sadly missed by his dear sisters Mary and Kay and his brothers Fr Brian, John, nieces and nephews Anna-Marie, Sean, Paula, James and Ellen, grandnieces and grandnephews, relatives, his friends and the staff at Mowlam Nursing Home.
Tony reposed at the Foley and McGowan Funeral Home, Market Yard, Sligo on Thursday evening from 5.30pm with removal at 7pm to arriving at the Church of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven, Enniscrone, at 8pm. Requiem Mass took place on Friday, December 8, at 12 noon with funeral proceedings to St Patrick’s Cemetery, Kilglass, for burial afterwards. May he rest in peace.
The senior ladies from Kilglass Enniscrone Utd travelled to the showgrounds in Sligo to play Yeats Utd. The first half saw the KEUFC women settle the better of both sides playing most of the football but the sides went in level at half time 0-0.
The Kilglass Enniscrone ladies started the better side in the second half and after 15 minutes and a couple of efforts it was a 25 yard strike from Maria O’Connell that hit the back of the net to put the ladies in front. Yeats threw everything at KEUFC in the last few minutes of the game but their defence and goalkeeper were outstanding and kept their clean sheet intact to see them run out 1-0 winners.
It was a really strong impressive team performance by the Kilglass Enniscrone ladies on the day.
An information day will be held at all Sligo Fire Service Stations on Saturday, January 6, from 10am to 2pm, in relation to working for Sligo Fire Service as retained firefighter jobs at Enniscrone, Tubbercurry, Sligo and Ballymote Fire Stations. No experience is necessary as full training will be provided. There will be career progression opportunities and typical earnings is €30k per annum. ‘Holding out for a hero’ is the title of the new book by Fr Brendan Hoban, looking at the hope and promise that Pope Francis is bringing to the church. Copies are available in Eason’s, Ballina, and costs €18.
A teen disco will be held on Friday, December 29, from 8.30-11pm in the MacFirbis Hall, Kilglass, with a live DJ. Tickets are available from Eventbrite costing €10. Mineral bar and it will be fully supervised.
The numbers drawn in the Easkey GAA and Eoghan Rua LGFA draw held on November 27, were 3, 15, 27 and 32.€30 consolation winners were Brenda Smith, Miriam McDermott, Elizabeth Dunphy, Patricia Kenny, Caroline and Brian Colleary. The jackpot in the ldraw which was held on December 4, was €12,600.
The club congratulate Matthew Coen, Lauren Carden and Brendan O’Meara who competed in the National Uneven Cross Country Championships and they had a fantastic performance. Many members also took part in the Belleek 10km on Sunday, December 3, and everyone enjoyed the fresh cold morning.

The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football clubs draw which was held on Sunday, December 3, were 18, 30 and 31. €25 prizewinners were Kevin Foody, Martina Cuffe, Siobhan Kilcullen and Redmond O’Shea. The jackpot for the latest draw which was held on Sunday, December 10, in the Ocean Sands Hotel, was €7500.
All at Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, were delighted when past pupil Emma Clasby who is in her first year of her Bachelor of Arts was accepted for Maynooth University Chamber Choir. Emma has a senior cert in Musical Theatre and Grade 7 in piano.
Enniscrone Kilglass GAA Club are holding a Christmas themed tractor/truck/car or any vehicle run in aid of North West Hospice Sligo on Sunday, December 17. Registration will be held at 4.30pm at Quigabar pitch and the run starts at 6pm through the parish. Entry is €20.

Christmas indoor food and craft market takes place every Saturday in the Old Church Enniscrone from 11am to 3pm. It features a wide range of handmade gifts, homemade baking, Christmas decorations, vegetables, fresh fish, bric a brac and local crafts. All are welcome and your support will be much appreciated.

Congratulations to the U20 Castleconnor lads who won the Sligo U20B championship last week. The final score was Castleconnort 1-8, Tourlestrane 0-9.
The numbers drawn in the Castleconnor GAA lotto which was held on December 2 were 1, 6, 31 and 37. There was no winner of the jackpot and no match 3 winner. The lucky dip winner was Michael Glacken. The jackpot for the draw which was held on December 9, was €19,300.
