Local Notes: Enniscrone students secure a place at this years BT Young Scientist competition in January.

Congratulations to TY students Roise Egan, Ruth Foody and Anna Feeney from Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, who have been successful in securing a place at this year BT Young Scientist in the RDS with their project which investigates the durability of different types of bioplastics.
The scaffolding has come down and the workmen have cleared up after all the conservation work carried out on Enniscrone Castle since mid-September. During the first phase of works the chimney tops have been rebuilt, the walls of the chimney stack have been repointed, vegetation removed from the chimney walls and tower tops and capped, many loose stones secured and most importantly the undercut to the end of the north wall has been rebuilt to safeguard against collapse.
This conservation work was made possible through the Community Movement Funds 2024 provided by The National Monuments Services and administered through the Heritage Office of Sligo County Council, finance for which Enniscrone and District Community Council are most grateful.
Further work including securing the fireplace area, and pointing and capping both the north and south walls, will be required before access to the castle will be practical. They hope to apply for grant aid for phase 2 in early 2025. They extend thanks to Sandcastles Creche for allowing them site access from their car park and thank the public for their patience, approval and support.
