Local Notes: Enniscrone Kilglass GAA Club enter paints draw

Enniscrone Kilglass GAA club are delighted to have been entered into a Fleetwood Paints draw recently by Anthony Murtagh. Anthony had to purchase 10 litres of Fleetwood Weatherclad Colours to enter and nominate the club for the chance to win 100 litres of Weatherclad Masonry Paint. He is pictured with Cormac Lyons, Fleetwood Paints, Aoife Gordon, Aidan Caffrey, Halmac Hardware, and Maurice Sweeney, Enniscrone Kilglass committee member. The paint will be put to good use at the new clubhouse.

New lift to be installed

West Sligo Family Resource Centre are delighted to announce that they should have a new lift installed at the centre by early 2024. Groundworks have started and the staff at the centre apologise for any inconvenience caused in the process.

Bridge classes

Bridge is played on Wednesday nights in Enniscrone Golf Club at 7pm where all are welcome to come along and enjoy the game. Beginner classes began yesterday (Monday, November 6), at 2pm, in the Golf Club. For further details, contact Kevin on 087-7568686.

The late Felix McDonnell

The death took place of Felix McDonnell, Gurtaheen, Culleens, peacefully on October 25, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 101.

Felix was predeceased by his beloved wife Mai McDonnell (nee Herbert) and will be dearly missed by his son Henry, wife Patricia and their children Sean and Aoife, his daughter Mary, her husband Michael and their children Michael, Matthew and Laura, his many family and friends.

He reposed at Sweeney’s Funeral Home, Dromore West on Friday evening, October 27, from 5 to 8pm and his funeral Mass was held on Saturday, October 28, at 12 noon in the Church of the Holy Family, Kilglass, followed by burial in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Enniscrone.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Everyone at Eoghan Rua Ladies extends their deepest condolences to Henry and all the family on the death of Felix. Henry is involved with the underage teams in the club and they are all thinking of Felix’s granddaughter Aoife who plays with the club also.

Social dancing

Social dancing is taking place in Skreen and Dromard Community Centre, on Saturday, November 25, at 9pm, with music by Andy Farry.

Activator Poles programme

The late John James (Jim) Feeney

The death took place of John James (Jim) Feeney, formerly of Willesden, London and Owenbeg, Easkey, on October 8, aged 92 years, in the loving and tender care of the staff of St Vincent’s Nursing Home, Eastcote, Pinner, UK.

Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife Kathleen (Ryan), his parents James and Agnes, sisters Delia and Eileen, infant brother Patrick Joseph, daughter-in-law Gail and deceased extended family members.

Jim will be missed by his children Irene, Patricia, Noel and Linda, sons-in-law William and Jean Francois, sister Christina, grandchildren Lauren, Liam, Martin and Peter, nieces, nephews, extended family members and many great friends.

Jim reposed at Bradley and Jones Funeral Home, Pinner, Middlesex, UK and his funeral Mass was held yesterday (Monday, November 6) at St Luke’s Roman Catholic Church, Pinner followed by burial at Pinner New Cemetery.

May his kind and gentle soul rest in peace.

The late Francis Foody

The death took place of Francis Foody, Radharc na Mara, Sea View, Easkey and formerly of Rathlee, Easkey on October 18 last, suddenly in the UK.

Francis was predeceased by his father Mike. He is survived by his mother Catherine, brother Michael, sisters Margaret and Ann, niece Leah, nephew Alex, aunts Margaret, Celia and Chris, cousins, relatives and friends.

Francis reposed at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina on Friday evening, October 27, from 5 to 6.15pm with removal to the Star of the Sea Church, Rathlee. His Funeral Mass was held on Monday, October 30, at 11am followed by burial in Roslea Cemetery, Easkey.

May he rest in peace.

The late Seamus Gordon

The death has taken place of Seamus Gordon, Manchester and formerly of Griddle, Culleens, on October 23, peacefully in Manchester. Seamus was predeceased by his wife Mary, brothers Leo, Tommy Joe, and sisters Bridie, Claire and Patricia.

He was beloved father of Stephen, Jane and Sarah and will also be sadly missed by his brothers Michael John (Manchester), Anthony (Manorhamilton), William (Birmingham), Gerry (Culleens), sisters Marian (Ballina), Nora (Ballina), in-laws, relatives and friends.

Handel’s Messiah in St Muredach’s

St Muredach’s Cathedral Choir is performing Handel’s Messiah under the direction of Regina Deacy in St Muredach’s Cathedral, Ballina, on Saturday, November 11, at 8pm.

The Cathedral Choir will be joined for this choral masterpiece by members of Westport-based choir Cor Mhaigh Eo, along with a professional chamber orchestra and soloists. This performance is also part of the Ballina 2023 celebrations.

Tickets are €27.50 and are available at www.ballinaparish.org or www.ballina2023.ie or from the parish office at 096-70555. All proceeds go to the restoration of the stained-glass windows in St Muredach’s Cathedral.

Kilglass Parish Community Centre

The committee of the Kilglass Parish Community Centre explain how the community can use phase 1 of the project which will be opening in March. Available immediately will be tea/coffee and refreshments after Masses; there will be a kitchen with a serving hatch and reception space will hold a large crowd. This will be lovely, especially if people have travelled long distances for anniversary Masses etc; soup/refreshments after funerals; events for between 80 and 100 people ie Boston Tea party, ladies lunch, charity events; family/private events/parties; coffee mornings; yoga/pilates; parent and toddler/baby meet-ups; first aid training; dance classes.

The meeting room can be set up in boardroom style or classroom style and can be used for craft classes; coding classes; committee meetings; health and well-being talks; music lessons; active age groups; community training initiatives.

Dublin City Marathon

West Sligo Athletics Club congratulate all the athletes who put in long hours of training and sacrifices for the Dublin City Marathon.

It was worth it for the phenomenal achievement of completing the famous marathon.

Massive congratulations to Ciaran McGuire, Alison Boland, Colm Tobin, Mervyn Reynolds, Catriona Finnerty, Sarah and Mattie Coleman, Lisa McHale and her brother Colm Ennis, Tommy Killoran and Patrick McGuinness.

Barn Dance

Enniscrone Show committee are holding a Barn Dance on Saturday, November 11, in Muddy Burns, Corballa, starting at 9pm. Admission is €10.

Music on the night will be supplied by Trevor Moyles and there will be prizes on the night for Best Dressed Male and Female. There will also be a raffle.

Bereavement course

The bereavement course presented by Monica Morley, Director of the Knock Shrine Family Centre and Midwest Radio broadcaster, is due to commence this evening, Tuesday, November 7, at 8pm at The Newman Institute in Ballina.

Annual Scary Woods Walk

Tireragh Community Support Ltd had great fun on Friday, October 27, when they welcomed all the local schools to Kilglass House for their annual Scary Woods Walk. They were able to see all their wonderful artwork on display and there were a few spooky surprises along the way for them.

The organisers extend thanks to all the teachers for joining in the fun and to Coláiste Easkey TY students for the brilliant input.

Diamond Ladies Lunch

The Diamond Ladies Lunch in aid of SHOUT (Sligo Hospital Oncology Unit Trust) and North West Hospice Palliative Care takes place in the Diamond Coast Hotel, on Friday, December 8, commencing with a champagne reception at 1pm, four-course lunch at 2pm, entertainment, fun and surprises. Parenting Gala

A ‘Parenting Gala’ hosted by West Sligo Family Resource Centre, Enniscrone, will take place on Wednesday, December 6, from 10.30am to 12.30pm in conjunction with Lifestart and Maia’s Purposeful Play.

Buggy Buddies

The Buggy Buddies programme with Bernie Finley, in conjunction with Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership, is held on Wednesday mornings at 9.45am for a walk at 10am. The cost is €2 per session and the group meets at the Enniscrone Family Resource Centre. There will be indoor activities in the centre if conditions are too wet. All are welcome to come and join for a walk, a cuppa and a chat.

Fun Dance Fitness

‘Fun Dance Fitness with Carmel ’is held in the West Sligo Family Resource Centre on Friday mornings from 11am to 12 noon. The cost is €5 per session.

First Holy Communion and Confirmation

The dates for First Holy Communion in Scoil Chriost Ri, Enniscrone, is Saturday, April 27, at 11am; and Kilglass NS on Saturday, April 20 at 12 noon. Confirmation will be held for pupils of Scoil Chriost Ri, Enniscrone, on Saturday, May 18 at 11am and pupils of Kilglass NS on Saturday, May 11, at 11am.

Christmas Market

The annual Santa Experience and Christmas Market will take place on Sunday, December 3, from 11am to 4pm at Kilglass House.
