The Activator Walking Group from West Sligo Family Resource Centre, Enniscrone, out on this nice December morning with Bernie and Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership.
To mark Western Gaels Hurling and Camogie Club 25th Anniversary, a charity match from the 1999 Team v 2024 Team will take place on December 29, at Quigabar, Enniscrone. The gate fee of €10 will apply and all proceeds will go towards two local charities – North West Hospice and STOP Suicide Prevention. The death has taken place of Elsie Gray nee Ginty, Cooga, Culleens, and formerly of Roy, Doohoma, Co Mayo, peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones. She was predeceased by her parents Tom and Jo. Elsie will be deeply missed and remembered with love by her heartbroken family, her husband Dessie, her children Amanda, Alison and Stephen, her adored grandchildren Sean, Holly, Danny and Tom, son-in-law Aidan, her brothers and sisters Mary, Anne, Willie, Breege, Paddy, Bernadette, Geraldine, Tommy and Tina, her extended family, many friends and great neighbours.
Elsie reposed at home on Wednesday, December 11, and her funeral arrived to The Church of the Holy Family, Kilglass, on Thursday morning for Requiem Mass at 12 noon followed by burial in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Kilglass. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
The annual general meeting of Eoghan Rua Ladies Football Club took place in the Ocean Sands Hotel, on Tuesday, December 3 last. Chairperson Patrick Cleary welcomed the members and delivered a comprehensive report detailing the club’s activities for the year and complimented the overwhelming success of the club during the year.
Treasurer Sinead Hanley provided accounts to give a detailed insight into their financial situation. The committee for 2024 has decided to continue for 2025 and it is as follows: Chairperson – Patrick Cleary; vice chairperson Shane Feeney, secretary Lisa Cuffe, assistant secretary Eleanor Corcoran, treasurer Sinead Hanley, assistant treasurer Joan O’Connor, PRO Eabha Cleary, assistant PRO Sarah Curley, registrar Lisa Curran, children’s officer Tara Murray, development officer Joanne McDonnell, delegates to county board Patrick Cleary, Lisa Cuffe, Shane Feeney, Joanne McDonnell and Molly Kearney.
A huge thank you was extended to the committee who are working constantly and tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the club is achieving maximum success. It is clear to see the work that is being put in at the top with the record number of girls and teams competing. The club is in a very positive place both on and off the pitch.
Rathlee NS will present their Christmas Nativity play and concert in Rathlee Church at 11.30am on December 17. All are welcome to come along and enjoy the presentation.
The Kilglass Enniscrone Parish annual Christmas St Vincent DePaul Appeal for food, toys, toiletries and fuel appeal is now underway. Boxes for donation are available in Kilglass and Enniscrone Churches and also in local businesses.
St Vincent de Paul has seen another huge increase this year in calls for help from people who are finding it ever more difficult to make ends meet. If you can afford to do so please consider making a donation, however small to this local charity.
Items of food/toiletries/toys can be purchased and left into boxes in either church or bought in local shops and left into the boxes provided. If you have any toys in very good condition they can be dropped into either church.
Donations of coal/briquettes etc can also be made, please get in touch for further details. Some examples of items that can be donated are; tinned food, non perishable foods, cereals, selection boxes, tea, coffee, biscuits, sweets, etc. Toiletries – toothpaste, shampoo, toothbrushes, soap, toilet tissue etc. Toys – board games, teddies, dolls or any types of toys.
The death has taken place of Linda Murphy nee Scott, Church Street, Glenamaddy, Co Galway and formerly of Rathlee, Co Sligo, peacefully surrounded by her loving family on December 6 last. Linda was predeceased by her father Peter, mother Mary, sister Maureen, nephew Edward and niece Laura.
She is deeply regretted and sadly missed by her heartbroken family, her husband Paul, sons Martin, Paul and daughter Louise, daughter-in-law Maria and son-in-law Freddie, grandchildren Christina, Molly, Michelle, Erinm Hannah, Leah, Tristan, Robin and Freddy, brothers Peter, Padraic, Michael, Anthony and sister Anne, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and a large circle of friends.
Linda reposed at Glenamaddy Community Centre on Sunday evening, December 8, from 5-8pm and removal took place from her home on Monday, December 9, for Mass at 12.30pm in St Patrick’s Church, Glenamaddy, followed by cremation in Shannon Crematorium.
