Many fond memories were recalled during the week of the late Marty Lally, Tavanaghmore, whose unexpected death took place at his residence on Friday, December 29, following an illness. Marty was a much loved brother, uncle, cousin and friend and was highly thought of by his former colleagues with Mayo County Council. Marty was born in 1953 to parents Patrick and Kathleen Lally and was a member of a family of twelve, 7 boys and 5 girls.
At an early age Marty had to take on responsibility of caring for his younger family siblings following the death of both his parents within ten months of each other in the mid 1970’s. Marty was a retired member of the staff of the Swinford area of Mayo Co Council, having given forty-two years’ service there before taking early retirement a few years back to care for his brother Francis.
Marty reposed in Clarkes Funeral Home on the Sunday evening before his removal to Christ the King Church, Knockmore. His 11am con-celebrated Mass was celebrated on the Monday where a large numbers of family, relatives and friends gathered to pay their final respects to a much-loved member of the community. In the homily Marty was remembered as a loving and caring brother, uncle, and friend. A person of great faith and devotion to his Mass and the sacraments.
In his early years he was involved with many organisations in the parish, helping to run the local bingo and was a member of the local branch of the Legion of Mary. Despite his many crosses in life Marty maintained a great sense of humour and in his own quiet manner had a quick word and answer for all. Marty will be remembered by all as a sincere good person but to his family he was their beloved brother, uncle, and carer for many years.
Deepest sympathy is extended to his sisters Helen, Bridget, Ann and Orla, his brothers Michael, Gerard, Brendan and John, to his many nephews and nieces, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, neighbours and friends. He was pre-deceased by his parents, brothers Tommy and Francis and his sister Mary. May he now rest in peace.
Knockmore Ladies Group are celebrating their 30th Anniversary on Friday evening, January 26, commencing with Mass in Rathduff Church at 7pm, followed by music and refreshments in The Lodge, Cloghans. All past and present members are welcome, together with family members and friends.
The late Michael Reddington, Enniscrone, whose death took place following an illness on Tuesday, December 19, was son of the late Anthony and Nora Reddington (nee Nallon), Runagry, Knockmore. Many recalled memories of Mike (as he was fondly known as) growing up in the parish and remembered him with great fondness and as a kind and loyal friend.
Mike always stayed connected with his many cousins and friends in the Knockmore area and returned regularly for many funerals and other occasions. He was pre-deceased by his wife Tess and daughter Mary, and he is survived by his sons Seamus, Tony, Michael, John and David, his daughter Nora, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, in-laws , cousins and many friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended. At his request, his body was donated for research to University Hospital, Galway. May his soul now rest in peace.
