The week before last some of the Ballinrobe Community School LC1 and LC2 history students travelled to London as part of their senior cycle history tour. They gained valuable experience as they ventured through the city in the warm sunshine and enjoyed a walking tour of the city's highlights including Covent Garden, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace and Big Ben.

Days two and three involved trips to historical sites such as the Globe Theatre, Imperial War Museum, The British Museum and Library, and the Science and Natural History Museums. Overall, it was an enjoyable and educational tour.

Connacht Rugby Junior One (B) Top Four Super 4’s

The Ballinrobe junior men’s team sauntered to an impressive 54-21 victory against Corinthians Second XV at The Green, on Sunday, March 9. Ballinrobe held a commanding 33-7 lead at the interval. Having lost their opening Super 4’s fixture to Westport, victory was imperative for the Robesiders and the hosts made the dream start when Paul Keane claimed an early touchdown. Corinthians didn’t panic though and the Galway outfit regrouped, before they notched a converted try which shunted the visitors into a slender two point lead. However, Ballinrobe came storming back and tries from Jack O’Toole and Liam Burke, buttressed by Dylan Keane’s precise conversions, turned the game on its head and the Black and White now led 19-7.

Corinthians tried to circle the wagons before the break, but there was no stopping a rampant Ballinrobe and a try from the hard-working Sean Mullin, and subsequent conversion by the aforementioned Dylan Keane, delighted the home supporters. Liam Burke was beginning to find pockets of space and he landed the final five-pointer of the half, before Dylan Keane’s conversion helped garner an impressive 33-7 half-time advantage for the local’s. To their credit, Corinthians began the second half in a robust fashion and the Blue and White plundered a converted try to offer their loyal band of away supporters a glimmer of hope.

But Ballinrobe were in no mood to allow the visitors find an avenue back into the tie and the dynamic Dylan Keane pilfered a try and then kicked a peach of a conversion, which mustered an unassailable 40-14 lead for the South Mayo men. Killian McHugh was proving a handful for the Corinthians defence, and he managed to cross the whitewash, with Dylan Keane’s two-pointer also warmly welcomed by the home supporters. A beleaguered Corinthians did manage to score another converted try, but at this stage of the game the visitors were on a damage limitation exercise as Ballinrobe led 47-21. Chris McHugh’s Ballinrobe side refused to step off the gas and they rounded off the joust in impressive fashion with the energetic Killian McHugh claiming another try, with Dylan Keane’s conversion adding further gloss to the full-time score-line.

The Robesiders final Super 4’s group game will be away to table toppers Ballinasloe, on Sunday, March 23, and this fixture is scheduled to kick-off at 2.30pm.
