On Saturday, June 13, Ballinrobe GAA and LGFA Club will host a very special event in Flanagan Park, the inaugural Éilis Maloney Ladies’ Football Memorial Tournament.
It will be a day of competitive seven-a-side football involving five local teams with whom Éilis played or had a strong family connection: Ballinrobe, Kilmaine, The Neale, Tourmakeady and Shrule/Glencorrib.
More importantly, it will be a celebration of Éilis’s life, her love of football and the legacy she has left within the club and beyond. Football played a big part in the various stages of Éilis’s life, from underage with her native Ballinrobe, to schools’ football with Coláiste Muire in Tourmakeady, adult football for a number of years with The Neale and finally a return to her native Ballinrobe, firstly with the Gaelic for Mothers and Others team in 2019 and then as a key member of – and driving force behind – the re-formed junior ladies team from 2022 to 2024.
The winners on the day will be presented with a cup, sponsored by the Maloney family, in memory of Éilis, recognising the valuable contribution she made to Ballinrobe GAA and LGFA club and to ladies’ football in south Mayo. In addition to the competitive games, there will also be an exhibition game involving Ballinrobe Gaelic for Mothers and Others, many of whom played with Éilis.
With entertainment, refreshments and live social media updates throughout the day, it promises to be a day of fun, football and friendship – three things which featured prominently in Éilis’s life. Registration for the tournament will take place on the day at 10.30am, with the first match taking place at 11am.

Well done to the girls’ U13 (B) team on their superb 3-2 victory away to Conn Rangers, last Wednesday. Ballinrobe made the dream start to this Division One game and Mia O’Malley gave the visitors the lead with a great finish, before her team-mate Emily O’Gorman added a second for the Robesiders.
Ballinrobe were motoring along nicely and their substitute Eve Costello arrowed home a terrific finish to muster what seemed to be a comfortable 3-0 lead for the Town.
However, the Conn Rangers game plan received a boost just before the break when they pegged a goal back. Rangers upped the tempo during the second half and launched some tidy attacking forays. The hosts managed to net a late penalty, but the north Mayo side’s brave comeback ran out of time and the red and white held on for a marvellous victory.
