Inspired by the Victor Hugo novel and much-loved Disney film, ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ is a dramatic, chorus-driven show that will appeal to audiences of all ages. The show features a cast of over 60 people and will be staged in Ballinrobe Community School from February 16-22. The first show commences on Sunday, February 16 at 5pm, with the remaining shows starting at 8pm nightly.

Ballinrobe Active Retirement Association

The Ballinrobe Active Retirement Association will hold its annual general meeting on Monday, February 17, at 11am in the Parish Centre, Ballinrobe. New members are welcome.

Ballinrobe Bridge Club

Ballinrobe Bridge Club held a competition on Thursday, January 23, and the results were as follows: 1st Paul Waldron and Marian O’Connor; 2nd Patricia McDonagh and Stella Nalty; 3rd William Enright and Angela Murphy; 4th Maureen Gallagher and Mary Connaughton; 5th Mary Kelly and Kathleen Nally; 6th Ita Langan and Carmel Costello.

Kilmaine Bingo

Kilmaine Bingo will host a special St Valentine’s Bingo in aid of the Crann Mór Day Centre, Ballinrobe, on Sunday, February 16, in the Kilmaine Community Centre, with proceedings getting underway at 8pm. There will be €1,600 in prizes with prizes on all lines, corners and goalposts; full houses €80; jackpot full house €300; 40 prizes in the half-time raffle.

Bingo books cost €5, whilst jackpot sheets are priced at €2. Complimentary refreshments will be available. This fundraising bingo is being run in conjunction with the Western Care Association. Your support would be appreciated.

New Walking Group

A new walking group will meet every Friday (commenced January 31) beside the clubhouse at The Green, at 11am. This group is for all ages and abilities, and will be a great way to enjoy the fresh air, have a chat, and to stay healthy. There will be tea and coffee afterwards in the Tacú Family Resource Centre. Tacú Centre 50/50 draw

Kieran McCarthy was the winner of €70 in last week’s 50/50 draw conducted by the Tacú Centre.

Irish Hospice Foundation Bereavement Support Line

The Irish Hospice Foundation Bereavement Support Line is available by calling 1800 807 077. The line is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 1pm.

Humanitarian Assistance Scheme

Forms for the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme are available in the Tacú Family Resource Centre, Ballinrobe. This scheme provides income tested financial assistance to households affected by the recent severe weather event. Help will also be provided to people completing forms.

Low Cost Counselling

Low cost counselling is available in the Tacú Family Resource Centre, Main Street, Ballinrobe. Contact 087 2859973 to talk confidentially and/or to make an appointment. Each call to the low cost counselling service is dealt with promptly and the caller is matched with a suitable counsellor. This is an extremely confidential service.

Youth Counselling

Youth counselling is available by contacting the Tacú Family Resource Centre. Two counsellors are available for young people aged 16-25, who are struggling with relationships, anxiety, worries, or who just simply wants someone to listen to them. Community School girls basketball

Well done to the Ballinrobe Community School’s junior and minor girls' basketball teams on their recent victories against Davitt College and Ballyhaunis Community School. Both respective games were fiercely competitive in the first and second round of the All-Ireland Cup Competition. The Ballinrobe Community School basketball coaches are very proud of both teams’ superb efforts on the court. A special word of thanks must also go to Ava Trower for coming on board and giving the girls inspirational team talks. Well done to all involved.

Ballinrobe Town AFC

In the recently held Mayo Football League Divisional Cup draws, Ballinrobe Town were pitted against Glenhest Rovers in Round One of the Super Cup, whilst Ballinrobe Town (B) face an away tie against Crossmolina (B) in Round One of the McDonnell Cup.

The aforementioned Super Cup clash will be Chris McGauley’s first competitive outing as Ballinrobe Town (A) team manager, having succeeded Xavi Vazquez during the closed season. Your support for both fixtures would be appreciated. Both of the above fixtures are scheduled to take place next weekend. Ballinrobe GAA Club lotto draw

There was no winner of the €25,400 lotto jackpot draw which was held in Art O’Neill’s Bar, on Monday, January 27. The numbers drawn were 4, 21, 22 and 32. The match three winner (€100) was Michelle Nestor.

The Neale GAA Club

The Neale GAA Club will host their annual awards and social night on Saturday, February 8, at 7pm, in Ryan’s Hotel, Cong. Tickets cost €25 per-person and can be purchased by contacting Breege 087 7934133 or Anne 086 1974991.

There was no winner of the €8,600 lotto jackpot draw which was held on Tuesday, January 28. The numbers drawn were 1, 2, 24 and 25. The €30 winners were Patrick Waldron, and Catherine Deacy. The €25 winners were Ann Mellette, and Sean O’Grady.

There was no winner of the €18,800 lotto jackpot draw which was held on Monday, January 27. The numbers drawn were 16, 20, 24 and 28. The €20 winners were Darragh Acton, John Walsh, and Niall Flanagan.

Shrule/Glencorrib GAA Club lotto

There was no winner of the €28,300 lotto jackpot draw which was held on Monday, January 27. The numbers drawn were 6, 9, 17 and 19. The €25 winners were John Muldoon, Jonathan Russell, Laura Kelly and Paul Donoghue.

Ballinrobe Rugby Club

The club held its weekly 50/50 draw in Art O’Neill’s Bar, on Sunday, January 26, with Craig Fitzpatrick the winner of €452.

Grow 

Grow is a mental health support program based on lived experience. This mean Grow groups are a meeting of peers, who are striving to develop and maintain good mental health. If you would like to know more, call your local GROW office on 1800 558 268. You can also register for ‘Welcome to Grow’, the online orientation session. This will give you an introduction to how meetings work and an opportunity to ask questions. You can also search for a group close by to you by using Find a Group and just turning up. No registrations are needed.

Create a Family Heirloom

Anybody interested in basket weaving? Tom Delaney of “Ould Crafty https://www.ouldcrafty.com/” is available in February to give four two hour classes in basket weaving. This is an opportunity to create a unique piece for your home as well as enjoy a couple of hours with friends or neighbours. The classes will take place in Clogher Community Hall. The course is part funded by MSLETB and will cost €40 per person for the four nights. All materials will be supplied. If interested contact Breege Blake at 086 3706757.

Clogher Active Age

Clogher Active Age will hold their AGM later in February and are currently looking at an interesting schedule of events for the coming year. New members are always welcome to come and join in the exercise, games and lunch.

Turlough 8k 

The Museum of Country Life, Turlough, is delighted to once again host the popular Turlough 8k run, organised by Mayo Mental Health Association and Parke Keelogues Crimlin GAA Club, in partnership with Mayo AC and the National Museum of Ireland. The event takes place at 12 noon on Sunday, February 16. Runners, joggers and walkers of all abilities are welcome. The run element of the event is registered with Athletics Ireland, which will attract the top talent in the county. Registration is available now through the Eventmaster platform.

Research your midwife ancestors 

Join the Mayo Genealogy Group for a special workshop from 12 noon to 1pm on Saturday, February 8, in association with the exhibition Mary Anne Fanning: Celebrating our Community Midwives, at the Museum of Country Life, Turlough. The group will share their knowledge and experience to help participants research their midwife ancestors. The Mayo Genealogy Group members enjoy sharing their successes and pitfalls, collective experience and detective work to give other researchers a guiding hand. New researchers are welcome. No booking required. Admission is free.

Museum, House and Gardens tour 

Join a free Museum, House and Gardens tour at 2pm and 3pm on Saturdays throughout the month of February. These tours are led by an experienced Museum Guide and feature key stories and objects from Ireland’s National Folklife Collection on display at Turlough Park, Castlebar. The tours also examine the life of the Fitzgerald family and the history and architectural style of Turlough Park House and Gardens. Tours start at Museum reception. Each tour will be announced by reception. No booking required. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
