Knockmore welcomes Archbishop Francis Duffy

Archbishop of Tuam and Apostolic Administrator of Killala Francis Duffy received a warm and enthusiastic welcome on Sunday last when he visited the parish where he celebrated the 10am Mass in St Teresa's Church Rathduff and the 11am Mass in Christ the King Church, Knockmore. Fr Michael Reilly PP on behalf of the people extended a warn welcome to Archbishop Francis and thanked him for taking the time to visit the parish and for his interest in and support given for its schools, people and its many organisations. Afterwards members of the Parish Council organised refreshments in the centre to give people an opportunity to meet the new Apolostic Administrator Archbishop Francis Duffy.

Village Enhancement meeting

Knockmore Village Enhancement Group next meeting takes place tonight Tuesday, February 25, at 8.30pm. The group are seeking volunteers for the upkeep of all the approach roads to the village. ‘Let's Keep Knockmore Tidy'. New members are welcome.

Jungle Challenge Show

Crossmolina Soccer Club is holding a Jungle Challenge Show in Hotel Great National Ballina for its pitch development fundraiser. The event will occur on March 8, based on the "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here" game show. Tickets are on sale in Hineys, Tolans and O’Donnell's Centra for €20 and from club members. Tickets are selling fast. Get them now to avoid disappointment.

Special Pioneer meeting

A diocesan meeting of members of the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association will take place in the Newman Institute, Ballina on Wednesday, February 26, at 7.30pm. All pioneers are cordially invited to attend. It be important that there are representatives from all parishes in the diocese. The first lady President of the Association, Mrs. Frances Egan, will be in attendance. During this Jubilee 2025 Pilgrims of Hope Year let us 'Pin our Hopes on the Love of Christ and the Sacred Heart'.

There was no winner of Crossmolina Deel-Rovers GAA Club lotto jackpot on Saturday night, February 16, in The Thatch. The numbers drawn were 3, 15, 33 and 35. Ardagh Community Players upcoming production of 'Home is the Hero' by Walter Macken will be staged in Ardagh Community Centre on Thursday, March 6 and Friday 7, commencing at 8pm. The Ardagh Players are very well respected in drama circles for their numerous entertaining and well staged productions over the years. This year's production promises to be equally, if not more, engrossing. Tickets on sale at the door.

Social Services

Ardagh Social Services are hosting a tea dance on Sunday week, March 9, from 4 to 6pm in Ardagh Community Centre. Music will be supplied by Billy Corcoran. €5 is payable at the door and everybody is welcome. Meanwhile, a day trip to Knock is currently being planned for Monday, May 12, with more details to follow.

Exercise

Exercise to Music classes continue in Ardagh Community Centre on Thursday nights from 7-8pm. The classes are fun filled and suitable for all ages and all abilities. Tea/coffee served afterwards. The classes are subsidised by Mayo Sports Partnership and the cost is €5 payable on the night.

Quiz

Congratulations to the winners of Ardagh GAA club's Quiz Loco and special thanks to all the players who organised it and to everyone in Mickey’s for hosting. The novel type quiz was organised by the players of Ardagh GAA Club with all proceeds going to the club's ongoing development fund.

Set Dancing classes

Moygownagh Ramblers

Thursday Night’s Rambling House Group held a very productive meeting. A grant application to the National Lottery Fund was being submitted for consideration. If successful this funding will be channelled towards the procurement of speakers such as published authors chatting about their achievements; cultural events for example The History of Art, Music and Holistic Approach were discussed. Some novel ideas were floated, including Colour Me Beautiful, Dream Interpretation, Enneagram of Personality, Find your Ancestors, Needle Felting, Quilting and Willow Basket Weaving. The enthusiasm of the Ramblers is infectious. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, February 27, at 7.30 in the Learning Forum.

Choir practice

A choir practice will take place in St. Cormac’s Church, Moygownagh, for three Thursday evenings at 6pm; February 27, March 6 and 13.

These practices are in preparation for the Youth Mass on March 9, and Confirmation on March 15. There will also be a short practice on Sunday, March 2 and 9, for all unable to attend on Thursday nights.

Scor na bPaisti 2025

North Mayo Scor na bPaisti will take place in Moygownagh Community Centre on Wednesday, February 26, at 7pm. Coiste Scor Mhaigh Eo is hugely appreciative of the time and effort put in by all parties each year, and look forward once more to the high standard of entertainment and enjoyment Scor na bPaisti brings.

Activator Poles Walking Club

Come and join the Activator Poles Walking Club starting at Lacken Community Garden (beside Lacken Church) on Monday, March 3, from 10am-11am. This is a free event funded by Mayo Sports Partnership and guided by Brian Glackin. It is a 6 week programme suitable for all age groups and fitness levels. Gardening Club

The gardening club meets at 11am on Tuesday mornings at Lacken Community Garden. New members are always welcome, just come along and enjoy.

Defibrillators

In case of an emergency use the defibrillators at The Enterprise Centre and Kilcummin Pier. The defibrillator unit at the Failte Rooms is not in use and is in the process of being replaced at a cost of €1440.
