Descendants of Owen McDonagh and Nora Morris met in Swinford over the weekend of August 8 to 10 for the Big Mac Reunion. As part of the weekend Mass was celebrated in Midfield School on Saturday, August 9, followed by a screening of Breege Rowley’s documentary 'All Our Yesterday's'. Photo credit Michael Maye.

Swinford AC Autumn 5k series

Swinford AC Autumn 5k series continues on Wednesday, August 20, in Midfield F12VE20, August 27, in Straide F26D788, September 6, ¾ marathon, 5k and 10k F12HH50, September 10, in Foxford F26ND92. All races start at 7.15pm with registration from 6.30pm apart from the event on September 6 where registration is from 8am with a 10am start. €5 per person, €10 per family. Agricultural Show

Swinford Agricultural Show have moved to a new location for this year's 34th annual show on Sunday, August 24. It is now located at the Tony Gleeson Farm on the Cullane Road, just on the outskirts of Swinford town, with ample onsite parking. This year's show promises to be bigger and better than ever. There will be competition classes in cattle, sheep, equestrian, poultry, dogs and home industries. There will be lots of entertainment on the day for all the family and dancing with Stuart Moyles and Band with a dancefloor on site for the day. Kiddies entertainment includes a pet farm, bouncy castles, face painting and much more. Show office will be open from Tuesday, Augusut 19 to Friday 22 in the Tower Giftshop on Main St., Swinford. Lotto

The numbers drawn in the Swinford Community Lotto draw held on August 11, were; 1, 2, 15 and 27. €70 vouchers were won by Noreen McNamara, c/o Tara Café and Eurospar Syndicate, c/o Anne. The jackpot in the draw held on August 18, was €6,800.

Outdoor performance

Cloonacool Players outdoor performance of J.M. Synge's ‘The Tinker's Wedding’ will be staged on Sunday, August 24, at 7.15pm in Cloonacool Village (F91 KX31). Appearing in the hilarious comedy are Olive Giblin, Dennis Ross, Peadar Conway, Marion Tarpey, Richard Yolland and Joe Corscadden, all in the capable hands of director Eileen Davey.

After what's been a brilliant Siamsa Sraide Festival, the committee thank each and every one who contributed in any way towards making Siamsa Sraide 2025 one to remember. Recent deaths

The death occurred of Angela Reynolds née Byrne, Granlahan, Ballinlough, and formerly of Carroward, on Saturday, August 2, and whose funeral took place in Granlahan on Friday, August 8, with burial afterwards in St Joseph’s Cemetery, Bohola.

The death also occurred of Geraldine Moloney, Lusk and formerly of Santry, Dublin, on Sunday, August 3, and whose funeral took place in Whitehall Church, Dublin on Tuesday, August 12. She was daughter of Mary (née McGowan) and the niece of Tom McGowan, Carrowkeel, John McGowan, Carroward, and Peter McGowan, Swords.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved. May they both rest in peace.

Kilmovee

The late Jimmy Forkin

As news of the sudden and untimely death of Jimmy Forkin, Carabeg, Kilkelly, on August 6, following an accident, filtered through the parish of Kilmovee/Kilkelly a great sense of shock, sadness and loss gripped the entire community and indeed much further afield.

Glowing tributes poured in from friends, neighbours and acquaintances and among the words used to describe Jimmy were honest, hardworking, an amazing man, welcoming, great neighbour and a very friendly person, a person who did things one way - the right way.

Jimmy is predeceased by his sisters Mary, Noreen, and his niece Michelle, and is survived by his wife Chris, his nephew Gavin, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces-in-law, nephews-in- law, grandnieces-in-law, grand nephews-in-law, neighbours and many friends. Jimmy reposed in the Marian Funeral Home, Knock on August 9, prior to removal to St Patrick's Church, Glann. Mass of the Resurrection was held on Sunday, August 10, at 2pm followed by interment in Culmore Cemetery, Kilkelly. May Jimmy rest in peace as deepest sympathy is extended to all who are bereaved.

Kilkelly Car Boot sale

The Kilkelly Car Boot sale will take place on Sunday, August 31, from 12-4pm at Kilkelly Trimoige Community Centre car park. The cost is €20 per car or €25 per van. Teas/coffees and home baking will be served in the community centre. To book contact 089 4179929.

Clothing collection

Kilmovee Swimming Pool are holding a clothing collection. Bags of clothes, paired shoes, handbags, belts (strictly no bedding or towels) can be left at the pool (F45 Y992) up to Friday, August 22, from 3-8pm. The committee would really appreciate your support with this fundraising initiative. All funds raised will go towards the running costs of the pool.

Kilmovee GAA roundup

Good luck to the senior team who play Castlebar Mitchels in the League Division 1 Shield final on Sunday next at the COE, Bekan.

Hard luck to the minor girls who were comprehensively beaten by Westport in the last round of the group stage of the A championship. They then faced Knockmore in the shield semi-final final on Wednesday evening, August 13, in Kilmovee.

Well done to the U15 team who beat Castlebar Mitchels on Friday evening, August 8, in Ballaghaderreen. A strong first half, assisted by the wind, set them up, as the ran out 8-10 to 3-11 winners.

Congrats to the U13's who started their season with a win away to Kiltimagh. They will face neighbours Charlestown in their second match, with the final group game of Stage 1 at home to Parke KC.

The U8's took part in a four team blitz in Charlestown on Saturday, August 9. Teams from Charlestown, Swinford and Eastern Gaels participated. Thanks to Charlestown for hosting.

The Mayo Player Development Programme, which has been running for the last two months, wrapped up with a blitz at the COE, Bekan on Saturday, August 9. 2012 born girls from all over the province lined out in their county colours in a great festival of football. Four girls from Kilmovee lined out for Mayo, where they played against teams from Galway and Roscommon in various 7 and 15 a side matches, making friends from many clubs along the way.
