The CFR group has a team of dedicated volunteers who act as Community First Responders within the Ballyheane, Ballintubber, Carnacon, Clogher, Errew and Killawalla areas.
This is how the system works: A 999 or 112 call is made for someone who needs help within the areas covered. An Ambulance is then dispatched and trained CFR volunteers are notified. Whoever is available makes their way to the scene to assist. If required they will start CPR, use a defibrillator and stay in touch with the National Ambulance Service (NAS). Once an ambulance arrives, the paramedics on scene will begin care of the patient. So if people see someone arriving in the Community First Responder bib, they are there to help until the ambulance arrives. They will also be carrying ID. The communities are lucky to have these volunteers in the area.
