Ballinrobe Gardening Club

The Ballinrobe Gardening Club meets every Wednesday from 11am to 1pm at the Parish Centre. This is a popular social outlet, and the group are currently working in the beautiful community garden situated behind the church. The group is led by experienced gardener Anna Fitzpatrick, who shares her knowledge and skills in a practical, no-nonsense, and down-to-earth way. Her approach creates a relaxed, hands-on environment that's both fun and educational for everyone involved.

The group continues to grow in numbers, and they warmly welcome new members of all gardening levels - whether you're a seasoned gardener or just getting started. Those interested in joining or who require further details and information, are asked to contact Monica at 087 4111343.

Walking Group

A walking group meets every Friday beside the clubhouse at The Green, at 11am. This group is for all ages and abilities and is a great way to enjoy the fresh air, have a chat, and to stay healthy. Those attending can also bring their dog. There is no cost to take part in this weekly activity.

Mayo Africa Day

Ballinrobe Racecourse will host Mayo Africa Day on Saturday, May 17, from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. The day promises to be full of music, dance, food, culture and fun. This is a free multicultural event. All are welcome.

Ballyglass Heritage Club

Ballyglass Heritage Club is delighted to announce that their Annual Heritage Day will take place on Sunday, June 1, at 12 noon. There will be a mixture of vintage and classic cars, tractors, stationery engines and motorcycles. Those attending can also see exhibitions of threshing, stone crushing, wood turning, shoeing the wheel, and there will also be a fun High Nellie bike run. There will also be children’s entertainment and a bouncy castle. More activities will be added to the schedule over the next couple of weeks. Refreshments and food will be available on the day.

Tacú Centre 50/50 draw

John Bradley was the winner of €70 in last week’s 50/50 draw conducted by the Tacú Family Resource Centre.

Buggy Walk

A buggy walk for parents and their children takes place every Thursday morning at 11am, with the meeting point The Green is beside the playground.

Ballinrobe Festival 2025 fundraising raffle

The organisers of the 2025 Ballinrobe Festival will hold a major fundraising raffle prize which is a luxury dream holiday worth €3,000. The winner can go on a cruise, enjoy a multi-city break, or bring the family to a family holiday resort. Tickets for this prize cost €10 and are on sale in Martin Murphy’s Newsagents, Ballinrobe. Alternatively, tickets can also be bought online and those wishing to do so are asked to visit the Ballinrobe Festival Facebook page. This year’s Ballinrobe Festival will run from July 19 to July 27.

Ballinrobe GAA Club lotto

There was no winner of the €26,800 lotto jackpot draw which was held in Art O’Neill’s Bar, on Monday, May 5. The numbers drawn were 2, 21, 30 and 36. There were no match three winners.

Ballinrobe GAA/LGFA

Well done to the Ballinrobe LGFA underage girls’ team who played in the Faye Lavin Memorial Tournament, held in Breaffy, on Sunday, May 4. Ballinrobe played both Moy Davitts and Westport, with a great exhibition of football displayed by the respective teams. Ballinrobe GAA/LGFA thank Breaffy GAA Club for the invitation to take part in the tournament.

Honours even

The Ballinrobe LGFA Junior Ladies team recorded a deserving draw away to Cill Chomain, on Sunday week last in the Division Four League. The Ballinrobe Junior Ladies team captain for the season is Ailíse Burke with Erin Feerick the vice-captain.

Connacht title for Ballinrobe Community School

Congratulations to the Ballinrobe Community School U14 girls team on their terrific 3-11 to 2-9 victory against Mercy College, Roscommon, in the Connacht LGFA U14 PPS (B) final. At half-time the sides were level at 1-5 apiece. The match was played at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence, Bekan, on Tuesday, May 6. Well done to all involved.

Ballinrobe Rugby Club

The club held its weekly 50/50 draw on Sunday, May 4, with Charlie Burke the winner of €400.

The draw took place in Art O’Neill’s Bar. Ballinrobe Rugby Club’s main pitch and training area at The Green are currently undergoing some crucial maintenance work. People are advised to keep off the pitch whilst this work is being completed. The rugby pitch will remain closed until further notice.

U14 girls Connacht Shield final

The Ballinrobe Town U14 girls team suffered a 2-0 loss to Corofin United in the Connacht Shield final, which was played in Westport, on Sunday week last. The first half was keenly contested but Corofin made the vital breakthrough on 23 minutes, when the hard-working Ellie Harty O’Brien found the back of the Ballinrobe net.

Try as they might, Ballinrobe couldn’t muster a second half equaliser, and the Galway outfit garnered a crucial second goal 20 minutes from full-time. A raiding run on the wing by Corofin’s Kieva Kelly resulted in her pin-point cross finding Ellie Mai Kavanagh and the latter rustled the back of the net.

Vegetable growing in containers workshop 

Mayo Abbey Centre are running a number of short workshops (1 – 1.5 hours) for anybody interested in growing vegetables in containers. Workshops will run in their organic garden with morning or evening sessions available. Contact the centre to express your interest on 094 93 65987.
