It was a phenomenal achievement for the Ballinrobe students as thousands of students took part in this esteemed Computational Thinking Challenge competition.

The Ballinrobe Community School U17 girls’ soccer team booked their Connacht final ticket after defeating St Calasanctius College, Oranmore 4-2, at The Green, last Wednesday. Ballinrobe made a blistering start and an early goal from Emma Stagg after only two minutes upset the Oranmore applecart. The in-form Emma Dowling was on song and she netted a first half brace to help muster a healthy 3-1 interval lead for the Pink and Black.
The South Mayo students were eager to put the game to bed and a fine second half goal from Tara Fitzpatrick bridged further daylight between the sides.
However, St Calasanctius refused to wilt and the Oranmore students pulled a goal back which caused concern for the home bench. In the end, some excellent leadership from the Ballinrobe duo of Maura Hughes in midfield and Sophia McHale in defence, helped the Robesiders close out proceedings impressively and they can now look forward to another provincial final against St. Enda’s of Galway.
Ballinrobe Community School’s U20 girls’ team recently defeated St. Enda’s in their respective provincial final in Headford.

On Friday, April 19, the Ballinrobe Rugby Club senior women’s team played their final cup match of what was their inaugural season, at The Green, when they faced OLBC from Galway.
Ballinrobe played some sparkling rugby during the early stages of this tie and led by their inspirational captain Muiread Burke, the black and white blitzed OLBC with three tries.
The aforementioned Burke plundered the opening try, and claimed another, before her team-mate Ailise Burke made a 40 yard sally into enemy territory and pinched the host’s third five-pointer of the evening.
At half-time Ballinrobe deservedly led 17-5 and the home faithful wondered if a famous end of season victory was on the cards.
A resolute Ballinrobe held off the OLBC second half onslaught until the 50th minute, when the Galway Sportsground outfit plundered the first of their three quick-fire tries to turn the game on its head and the visitors now lead 25-17.
The home side refused to throw in the towel and a lightning move concluded with Rachel Kinneavy scoring under the posts. The subsequent conversion from Aoibhinn Holleran (her second of the evening) was unnerving and left the score-line reading 25-24 in favour of the visitors, with just 5 minutes remaining in this intriguing showdown. Ballinrobe were eager to record their first victory of the season and upped the ante during the dying embers of the game, however, a gutsy OLBC held on to claim a slender 25-24 victory. In the end, both sides played some excellent rugby and the Ballinrobe team are already planning for and relishing the start of next season.
Works were completed last month on the car park at The Neale GAA club grounds, in Cong. This picturesque GAA venue has seen some great matches down through the years and has players representing the club from Cong, Cross and The Neale. It is also a venue that hosts the ever-popular GAA Cúl Camps, community games, and the ‘Ireland Lights Up’ walks.
McGraths Limestone Cong is the main sponsor of The Neale GAA Club and they were delighted to work in partnership with The Neale GAA Club to help enhance this wonderful community amenity by giving the car park a new fresh look. On this project, McGrath’s Cong completed all the drainage works and installed all light ducting for car park lighting in the future, marking out 90 car parking spaces thus ensuring that the GAA pitches can be enjoyed for many more years to come.
