Derry O’Sullivan took the honours in Round 13 of the Winter Poker League in Teach O’Hora on Wednesday night last. The runner-up was Martin Regan with AN Other third and Keith Lydon fourth. The other finalists were: 5th, Enda Ruane; 6th, John Reynolds; 7th, AN Other; 8th, Annette Reynolds.
Keith Lydon remains top of the league table on 179 points followed by Michael Sheridan on 163 and Derry O’Sullivan on 150. The rest of the top twelve is Paul Walsh 146, Enda Ruane 134, Martin Regan 129, Gerry Groarke 128, John Reynolds 121, Pat Boyle 120, AN Other 116, Michael Higgins 112, AN Other 110.
The league runs with tournaments in Teach O’Hora every Wednesday night at 8pm for 15 weeks. Entry each night is €20 with an optional re-entry and late registration available for 90 minutes. €5 from every entry goes towards the league final prize pool with the rest paid out on the night. After 15, weeks the top 12 players qualify for the Grand Final to compete for an estimated prize pool of an estimated €2,000 and they will be joined by two more players from the play-off tournament which is open to all non-qualifiers.
The next round of the league will be played on Wednesday night, January 1st. Meanwhile, the annual Christmas Hold ’Em tournament will be held in the Cill Aodain Hotel on Friday night, December 27th, starting at 7.30pm. Entry will be €30, rebuy/add on €20. Numbers are strictly limited and pre-booking a seat is advisable as no guarantee walk-ins will be accommodated on the night.
The first of the popular monthly 50/50 tournaments of the new year will be held in Teach O’Hora on Sunday afternoon, January 12th, at 4pm. Entry is €50 for a 50k stack.
Congratulations to Kate Byrne, Aoife Collins and Áine Monaghan, all of whom were selected on the Mayo Women’s League Under-17 Premier League Team of the Year.
The Kiltimagh Knock United 50/50 jackpot last week was €250 and the winner was Richie Donohue, Dublin, who is an annual ticket holder. The club has expressed thanks to all the people who support their weekly jackpot, their sponsors, match-day supporters, and volunteers, and wishes all the community a happy Christmas.
The Mayo Women's League are holding their first ever Masters League next February/March and Kiltimagh Knock United will be part of that journey. The club would like to hear from anyone over 30 who is interested in taking part.

Kiltimagh Women’s Group will celebrate Nollaig na mBan, with a lunch in the Park Hotel, on Monday, January 6th, at 2pm.
Cora Waldron and Michael Cunningham were the Christmas prize winners of the weekly bridge game. Geraldine Forde and Jerome Tarpey finished second and Mary Colahan and Ray Nally, third. The next game will be in early January.
Bridge is held in the Park Hotel every Tuesday at 7.30pm. The club is open to new members joining at any time. Casual pairs are also welcome. Bridge classes are available for beginners and anybody interested can contact John McCrohan on 087-2422945.
Mike Nolan and Alo Langan shared first place in last week’s card game with Francis McNicholas and Pius Forde. Third prize was shared four ways with the pairings of Flor Higgins and Colette Lavelle, Mary and Jimmy Doyle, Paddy Carney and James Walsh all level with Michael Carney and Michael Costello.
The Last 10 winners were Chris Flatley and Manus Kilcoyne. Spot prizes were claimed by Ciaran McDonnell and Jack Ryan and the raffle winners were Joe Boyle, Seamus Larkin, Flor Higgins and Tom Walsh. There will be no card game on December 26th. Games will resume on January 2nd.
The death has occurred of Martina Murphy (née Healy), of Laughtadurcan, Meelick, Swinford, and formerly of Cordarragh on December 14th.
Martina was predeceased by her husband Jimmy and her parents Bea and Tony. Martina will be sadly missed by her sister Lorraine, brother JP., sister-in-law Bridie, nieces Sharon and Carla and nephews Shane and Anthony, family circle, neighbours and friends.
Martina's Funeral Mass took place at St Luke's Church, Meelick, prior to cremation in Shannon Crematorium.
Irene McNicholas was the winner of last week’s GAA 50/50 draw. Irene won €559 in the draw which was held in Langan's.
Kiltimagh GAA extends season’s greeting to all its supporters and thanks everyone who supported the club’s 50/50 throughout the year and all who supported the club financially, on the sidelines at matches and the volunteers who help run the club.
The Christmas Lights have been on for a few weeks now and the town is looking very festive.
The Christmas Lights Committee is sending out a gentle reminder seeking financial contribution of €150 per business, from businesses in the town. If members of the public would like to make a contribution of any amount towards our project, that would be appreciated. Any cash or cheques can be left in to Tommy Ryan or Austin Finn.

The second Coillte Cup Battle of the Townlands will take place on St Stephen’s Day. The competition sees Swinford/Bohola face a Mountain/Balla selection in the first semi-final. The second semi-final is between The Townies and Knock/Kilkelly.
The first game will commence at 11am and will be played as a 15-a-side, with a mixture of men and women on each team. Each game will last a total of 20 minutes, and rolling subs will be used. In an era of rule reviews, points scored by women in these games will count as two points.
The teams beaten in the semi-finals will play a shield final at 12 noon with the Coillte Cup Final being played at 12.30pm. All games will be played on the astroturf pitch at the CEO in Bekan. The entry fee is €10 per player and all players must arrive at the ground, togged out.
There will also be a penalty shoot-out for Under-10s and Under-12s. This will commence at 11.30am and there will be prizes for the winners.
The event is in support of two great charities. Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and the Mayo Roscommon Hospice. All families, children and spectators welcome, and they can avail of teas, coffees and cakes at the event.
The Cill Aodain Carol Society's annual Car Treasure Hunt takes place at 2pm on St Stephen’s Day at Kiltimagh Church car park. The results will be announced in Langan’s pub at 5.30pm. The entry fee is €30 per car.
The society had a great turnout for last year’s hunt, and is looking forward to seeing everyone again this year.
The 10th Mayo (Kiltimagh) Scouts are holding a Christmas hike as a fundraiser on December 29th. The walk will start at the GAA pitch at 10am. The route is a challenging and rewarding 13.5k hike around Sliabh Cairn and back again, with a coffee/tea and treat break along the way.
The hike should take under three hours and walkers will climb 278 metres in the process. The scouts recommend that anyone considering taking part in the walk should wear good hiking shoes or boots, waterproofs and warm clothing. The walk is organised by the Kiltimagh Scouts youth members. The charge for the walk is €5 or a donation of the walkers’ choice.
Kiltimagh Tourism Festivals are holding a Christmas Monster Raffle with huge prizes. First prize in the draw is €1,000. Second prize is two tickets to The Saw Doctors concert in Virgin Media Park, Cork, which will be held on June 14th next year, including a night’s dinner and bed and breakfast in the four-star Clayton Hotel. Third prize is a pair of tickets to Ireland v England in the Six Nations Rugby, at the Aviva Stadium with hotel accommodation for two people in a Dublin city centre hotel. Fourth prize is a Publican’s Hamper to the value of €400. The fifth prize is a voucher for the Cill Aodain Court Hotel valued at €300. The sixth prize is for two nights bed and breakfast for two people at The Mill Park Hotel, Donegal. There will be many more prizes to be won.
The raffle will take place in Teach O’Hora on this Sunday, December 29th. Tickets are €5 each or three for €10. The organisation does tremendous work throughout the year promoting the town.
The 2025 Mayo Four-A-Side Darts competition will be held on Saturday, January 11th, in The Park Hotel, Kiltimagh. The entry fee is €15 entry per player. All entries should be paid via Revolut to Joe on 083-8554284. Only paid entries will secure their place in the competition.
The Park Hotel is offering special room rates for the event. These are available directly from the hotel, quoting 'darts'
There will be lots of side events on the night also, including the '9 darts at 9' challenge with some great prizes on offer. The proceeds will go to the Western Care Association, and all support is much appreciated.
