The junior men’s team were in Connacht Junior One (B) League action on Sunday week last and recorded a superb 25-11 victory away to Creggs. Ballinrobe led at the break 10-6 and continued to play the better rugby on the resumption, with a penalty from Dylan Keane extending the guests lead.
Creggs were eager to make home advantage count and a spirited fight-back from the hosts resulted in Ballinrobe conceding a try. With Ballinrobe’s lead having been whittled down to just two points (13-11), the game was now really in the melting pot, however, a moment of brilliance from the black and white resulted in Jarlath Mullin crossing the whitewash. Dylan Keane guided over the subsequent conversion and suddenly the Robesiders had a bit of breathing space.
A doughty Creggs tried their level best to muster a comeback, but substitute Eoin Lynagh’s late five-pointer sealed the deal for the South Mayo outfit.
