There was plenty of success for members of Foxford’s CCÉ Admiral Brown branch at Mayo Ceol an Gheimhridh which took place in Swinford on Saturday, January 20. Glór na Sí were crowned céilí band champions and several of the musicians were medal winners on an individual basis also. In fact, Michael McHale, Gareth Doyle and John Clarke completed a 1, 2, 3 in the U11 wind competition, with Michael and Gareth doubling up to also take first place in the U11 duet competition. Gareth Doyle also took second place in the U11 strings competition while fellow branch member Muirenn Hyland won the 11-14 strings competition.
CCÉ Admiral Brown also held its monthly junior session in Cruiser’s Bar, Foxford last Friday evening as which Adam Hennigan was presented with the Tom Doherty Cup for ‘Best Improver’. Well done Adam!
There was bitter disappointment for the senior footballers of St Joseph’s, Foxford last Friday afternoon when they were beaten in the semi-finals of the Connacht PPS Senior ‘C’ Football Championship. They encountered a very good Ballyhaunis Community School team at the Connacht GAA Air Dome where they were beaten 1-20 to 4-8. Incredibly, St Joseph’s full-forward Dylan Coleman scored a hat-trick of goals from the penalty spot, and one from play as well, but ultimately it was the point scoring ability of their East Mayo opponents that shone through.
St Joseph’s, Foxford: Shane Moyles; Kevin Moylette, Adrian Sotoparra, Tomás Bourke (0-1), Oran Timlin, Ajay McGrath, Keith Langan; Daragh Staunton (0-1), Cian Fahy; Mark Fahy, Conor Ryder, Ryan Gaughan; Jordan Langan (0-1f), Dylan Coleman (4-3, 3-0pens, 0-2f), Jamie Clarke (0-2). Subs: Anthony McHale (Gaughan 44), Kian Clarke (for Bourke 55).
Meanwhile, St Joseph’s under-14 girls team was also in action on Friday and they got the better of St Nathy’s, Ballaghaderreen by 5-10 to 5-08 in what was an absolute thriller.

The U15 boys soccer team from St Joseph’s, Foxford earned themselves a 2-2 draw when making the long journey to Belmullet to play Our Lady’s secondary school last week. In what was their opening game of the season, the Moy boys led 1-0 at half-time thanks to a goal from Michael McCready, however, two quickfire goals by the hosts shortly after the interval turned the game on its head. St Joseph’s pushed for an equaliser and duly got one when James McLoughlin placed the ball in the top corner. It was an entertaining game given the very windy conditions.

S&F United picked up the first point of their Westaro Masters League Division 2 campaign after an exciting 4-4 draw with Ballyhaunis Town who joined them in earning promotion last season. Michael Prendergast scored a wonderful opener for S&F, which was cancelled out by Keith Robinson’s leveller at the break.
Sean Walsh restored the advantage for the Green Road men but a brace by Pat McGee put Ballyhaunis ahead for the first time. There was still time for late drama as two goals by Chris Downey, either side of a contentious Ballyhaunis penalty by Frankie Nolan, ensured a share of the spoils – with S&F also aggrieved to have a second-half goal disallowed when the ball appeared to fly inside the post but through a gap in the net!
