Kiltimagh in the Spotlight

Kiltimagh in the Spotlight

Congrats to Kiltimagh Poker champion Keith Lydon who won the Summer Poker League and the Jeremy Dee Memorial Cup at the final played in Teach O’Hora last week

No Cup joy for KK seniors

There was no joy for the Kiltimagh Knock United senior ladies in the Rumley Cup final, where they met formidable opposition in Manulla, the recently crowned Mayo champions - that's four in a row of titles for them. KK certainly put it up to Manulla in the first half, recovering from an early setback to equalise within minutes through Ellen Boyle. However, Manulla are not a quadruple winning team for no reason and their superiority told in the second half as they pushed on to win comfortably.

A 7-1 scoreline was somewhat lopsided and didn't fully reflect the competitive nature of the tie.

For KK, this was a first ever appearance in a women's cup final since the team was re-formed in 2020 and there's plenty positives for the future as they see progression each year.

Poker Champion

Keith Lydon is Kiltimagh Poker Champion once again after taking down the Summer Poker League final in Teach O’Hora on Wednesday night last. The runner up was Martin Regan with Kevin Burke taking third prize and Nicky Cunnane fourth. Fourteen players had qualified to contest the final and a prize pool of just over €2,000. The other final table placings were, 5 John Reynolds, 6 Michael Higgins, 7 Paul Walsh, 8 Gerry Groarke, and 9 Pat Boyle.

A new fifteen week league starts this Wednesday night, September 13, in Teach O’Hora and will run every Wednesday night at 8pm. Entry is €20 with one optional rebuy and late reg until 9.30pm. €5 from each entry goes towards the final prize pool and the rest is paid out each night. In the last league almost €6,000 prize money was paid out over the course of the fifteen weeks, an average of almost €400 a night. At the end of the league fourteen players will as usual contest a Grand Final for an expected prize pool of over €2,000.

Premier League

Kiltimagh Knock United's Senior B team had a good finish to their season, with a 5-5 draw away to Ballinrobe, who have just been promoted to the Super League. Goals from Tadgh Caulfield, Rafael Costa (2), Dylan Webb and Ethan Hosty showed the strength and depth the team has.

An overall sixth place finish in the very competitive Premier League, narrowly missing out on fifth place, is a massive achievement from a squad of core seasoned players and developing players coming through all the time.

Well done to all the players and managers for a great season and best of luck for next season, which looks to be a battle of the B teams.
