There was a large attendance present in Clogher Clubrooms on Sunday evening, November 5, for the annual general meeting of Ballintubber GAA Club. Club cathaoirleach Pat Barrett and club secretary Liz Conway outlined all the hectic hard work that had taken place over the course of the season with ongoing upgrading of facilities and also the achievements of all teams on the playing fields.
Thanks was extended to the Board na nÓg officers and committee for their organisation of underage competitions and congratulations were extended to the Minor League Division 5 team and Management, the Division 3 U16 league side and management and also the U14 team who completed at the highest level in league and championship.
Congratulations were extended to the Senior Player of the Year 2022, Keelan McDonnell, John Kerrigan, Junior Player of the Year and also Johnny Corcoran, Hall of Fame winner who received their awards at the clubs annual dinner dance in the Castlecourt Hotel on March 4. Tributes were also paid to the History Committee for their wonderful photographic display at the recent 40th Anniversary celebrations of the Clogher complex. Thanks was also extended to the club sponsors, supporters local representatives and the clubs maintenance crews who keep facilities maintained to the highest standards.
On the playing fields appreciation was expressed of the efforts of Ballintubber senior and junior teams who were once again highly comparative and within a hairs breath of major honours. The clubs county players were also lauded for their superb representation on the Green above the Red County senior panel.
Club treasurer Sean McHugh extended his thanks to the clubs gold patrons, lotto teams and supporters and all who assist with fundraising necessary for the expert and smooth running of all facets of club activity.
Sean presented to the club a detailed and comprehensive financial report which outlined expenditure on club infrastructure and teams training expenses etc. He appealed for support for an upcoming fundraising drive which will commence shortly.
The meeting then proceeded to elect the following officer board and club committee to serve for the 2024 season. Kate and Friends in concert Kate Heneghan and Friends will host an evening concert on Thursday, December 21, 8pm in Ballintubber Abbey. Donations on night will go to Ballintubber Abbey New Development in honour of Jo and Des Thornton; R.I.P. Tickets are priced at a modest €20 each.
Fiona McHale of Carnacon LGFA travelled to Kenya on November 17, with Self Help Africa and the GPA with 40 other players from around the country for a project to plant 1 million trees for Kenyan communities. For this Fiona, Lisa Cafferkey and Danielle Caldwell had a target of €30,000 to raise and so far have raised €20,000. There are two final initiatives left that hopefully will help raise the remaining amount: 1. Sale of Warriors for Humanity Jerseys, 2. €10 Squares for the United v Liverpool game on December 17. Ballintubber Abbey Christmas Concert will take place on Thursday, December 14, at 8pm. Ballintubber Abbey Choir and Mayo Male Voice Choir invite you to their 3rd Christmas Concert in Ballintubber Abbey. This event began in 2019 as a memorial concert to our dear friend Marcus RIP who was a member of both choirs and following its success the Christmas Concert has become a much enjoyed annual event. A large turnout is anticipated.
Congratulations are extended to Jayne O’Connor and Eoghan Carberry who were married on last Friday, November 17, in Holy Trinity Abbey, Ballintubber. The couple are wished health and happiness in their married lives.
The Ballintubber GAA weekly lotto draw with Adrian Burke as the accomplisher MC, took place on Saturday night, November 12, in the clubhouse in Clogher. 22, 23, 27 and 28 were the numbers drawn and the consolation prize winners were Martin Larkin, Maura Cuffe, Ciarán Prendergast, Luke Breach, Michelle Lally and Mark Reilly. The draw for last weekend’s on November 19, in the Carra Lodge was for a jackpot of €7,400.

There was a good turnout for the November food and craft market in Ballyglass Community Centre on Saturday, November 11. The raffle winners on the day were as follows: €50 fuel voucher from Gary Burke, Top Oil Castlebar - Sinead Mulroe; €30 voucher for Finns Shoe shop, Ballyhaunis – Rachel Quinn; Tea set from McGloins Gala, Foxford – Morris Murphy; Hat and Glove set – Nora Conroy. Delia-Mai Malone won the Guess the Name of the Snowman competition and got to take home Holly the snowman. Layla McNeely won the set of toy cars. The final storytelling night in the very successful series in Ballyglass Community Centre, supported by funding from Mayo County Council, will be on December 2, with special guest, Senem Donatan. Michael Corcoran’s recent fundraising run in the Dublin City Marathon was for the Cancer Society of Ireland. Over 9,000 people passed away last year from this awful illness. Ballintubber active retirement meetings are held on Monday mornings at 10.30am in the resource centre, Ballintubber. The group are seeking new members - please come and see what’s on offer, a warm welcome awaits.
Ballintubber Abbey will be closed to the public from 12 noon on Sunday, November 19. This is to facilitate for the evening concert by Louisburgh Voices and Cór Mhaigh Eo Choirs. The concert will take place at 5pm.

The Tourmakeady Partry Swimming Club tractor run and children’s bikes, go cart, scooter etc. Christmas Lights Exhibition will take place on next Saturday, November 25. The tractor run will begin at 5pm starting at Partry Soccer pitch followed by the children’s exhibition on the grounds of the GAA pitch from 5pm. Whether the children have a bike, scooter, tractor, car decorate it and join in the fun for the Christmas lights exhibition. There will be prizes for the best tractor, 4x4 as well as prizes for the children’s vehicle. Last year was unfortunate as the event had to be cancelled on Health and Safety grounds. This year the swimming club is in its 38th year.

The Thuar Mhic Éadaigh G.A.A lotto draw took place on November 11, for a jackpot of €9,300. 1, 16, 21 and 31 were the numbers drawn. The death took place peacefully at Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar of Rose Anderson, R.I.P, Kiltharshane, Killawalla, Westport. In recent times Rose was resident at Friars Lodge Nursing Unit in Ballinrobe. She was predeceased by her husband Johnny. She is survived by her daughter Kathleen, neighbours and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her remains reposed in Killawalla Community Centre on Friday evening, November 17, from 6.30 with removal at 7.30pm to St. Patrick's Church, Killawalla. The Ballyheane / Ballintubber First Responders Group are now responding to local emergency cardiac arrest, chest pain, stroke and choking calls when dispatched by the National Ambulance Service (NAS). The areas covered are Ballyheane, Ballintubber, Carnacon, Clogher, Errew and Killawalla.
After months of training, hard work and dedication, the first group of eleven local volunteers are answering the call and responding when required to assist neighbours and friends in local communities. Thanks to all the volunteers, who give up their time freely to attend training regularly and who will be responding to calls from now on.
Thank also to the instructors, Julie, Tom and Bertie, who have trained and guided the group over the past months, and will continue tuition along with responding themselves.
The group wish all the volunteers the very best of luck with whatever lies ahead of them, and they are confident of making a difference to local communities.
The ever popular "Move it or lose it" classes has resumed on Monday’s at 10am in Ballyheane Community Centre. Classes are for the Over 55s and cost €8 per class (pay as you go). Ballyheane Ladies Group which costs €5 per night is in the Scouts Den at 8pm.The Crochet classes with Helen continue until December 4 when Deirdre McCarthy will do Christmas floral decorations. All are welcome to attend this workshop and the fee is €10.

Santa Clause is coming to Clogher Heritage Complex on Sunday, December 17, and he has ordered a very special conveyance to bring him there. Preparations are in full swing at the moment and chimneys are being swept. It will be special days for all families so don’t miss it.
The results from the 25 game played on Friday, November 10, were 1st Joe Thomas and Eileen Moran and Bridie McDermott and Michael Giblin, 2nd Martin Moran and Seamus Jennings, 3rd Jimmy Connor and Tommy Lyons and Mary Kelly and Gay Conway. Clogher Active Age Group meets up every Wednesday morning at 11am in the Clogher Community Centre. All senior citizens across the region are very welcome to attend the enjoyable weekly sessions.
Local Link Bus service is now available through Clogher on demand on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The bus driver is Matt and his phone no is 085 1251633. Anybody wishing to avail of the service contact him on the previous day and supply your Eircode and he will endeavour to pick each client at their own home.
The 2024 Pioneer Calendar is available from Pioneer Centres and from Central Office 01 805 4226. The calendar is designed to offer spiritual support to families which are being impacted by alcohol and addiction. The calendar is modestly priced at €5.
