Tommy returns with a fantastic new comedy

Broadcaster and playwright Tommy Marren is back on the road with a fantastic new play.

After a break of almost three years, broadcaster and playwright Tommy Marren is back with a brand new Irish comedy entitled Matches and Old Flames

The play will tour the entire country, including dates in Claremorris and Ballina.

Matches and Old Flames is set in the West of Ireland and tells the story of Maureen Corcoran – a woman in her early 80s – who decides it’s time to find love for her two mature sons. She spots an advertisement where two mature ladies on the East coast are on the search for men. Without the consent of her sons, Maureen takes matters into her own hands and invites the ladies to come and meet her two sons in person! What transpires is simply hilarious. There’s plots and sub-plots galore and the promise of at least 300 laughs in two hours!

Tommy Marren’s previous works, which include It’s The Real McCoy, Nobody’s Talking to Me and Three Hail Marys, have all been hugely successful and for the past 12 years he has built up a reputation as being one of the best comedy writers in the country.

Matches and Old Flames will premiere at Claremorris Town Hall Theatre on Friday and Saturday, January 5 and 6, at 8pm. Tickets available at www.townhall.ie or on 094-9310999.

The play will also be staged at Ballina Arts Centre on Friday and Saturday, February 16 and 17, with tickets selling fast on www.ballinaartscentre.com or 096-73593.

Tommy is really looking forward to taking the play on the road.

"I have to say that I really love this play and I know audiences will love it too. After the success of all my other plays, the pressure is always on to write scripts that are every funnier than the ones that went before so that’s a challenge. That said, this one has all the ingredients of a great night's entertainment for lovers of comedy theatre and I’m really looking forward to starting the tour with two Mayo venues. Here’s hoping they like it.

"The bookings for both Claremorris and Ballina are exceptional already and both are on the way to selling out soon – so that’s a good omen!"
