Mulranny Arts to host series of summer events

Singer Karen Underwood will perform the music of Nina Simone on July 26th.
Mulranny Arts invites you to experience an exciting programme of music and theatre performances as part of its Summer Series of Events 2025. Taking place in the beautifully restored oratory at the Old Convent in Mulranny, each event promises an intimate and highly entertaining evening.
Nestled between the Church and Mulranny National School, the oratory in The Old Convent provides a uniquely atmospheric venue - warm and acoustically rich, making it perfect for live performances.
The series kicks off in May and continues into September, showcasing an eclectic mix of talent:
• Friday, May 30: Donal O’Connor with special guest, landscape artist Padraig McCaul on saxophone. A captivating evening of original music and conversation, blending storytelling and song.
• Saturday, June 21: Teague and Joyce with special guests Maidhc O’Heanaigh on double base and Neil Fitzgibbon on fiddle. This band is on the rise with a Grammy-shortlisted album ‘What Will We Be’ under their belt and recent RTÉ Radio 1 featured single ‘Homegrown Potatoes’. 2025 has been a year of highlights with performances on RTÉ's ‘Cuan an Cheoil’ with Liam Ó Maonlaí, and other shows.
• Saturday, July 12: At War With Mercy – A Play with Music by Leonard Cohen. John McKenna presents a reflection on war, peace and mercy, featuring 16 songs written by Leonard Cohen. With musicians Katie Jacques, Shane Sullivan and David Day and actors Angela Keogh and John MacKenna, the show is a memorable and wonderful recreation and imagining of the work of Leonard Cohen.
• Saturday, July 26: Karen Underwood: The Music of Nina Simone. After five sellout shows at the Cork Opera House in October 2024, Karen Underwood, Cork’s beloved jazz diva from Chicago, performs her soulful tribute to Nina Simone, celebrating strength, struggle and her timeless voice.
• Friday, August 8: Graham Sweeney: An Evening of Songs and Stories. Graham Sweeney is more than a singer songwriter, he is a musical innovator, weaving fingerstyle guitar, rhythmic vocals and immersive soundscapes into a deeply moving performance. His music draws from the rugged beauty and rich heritage of Achill Island, making each song a journey through emotion, place and time.
• Saturday, September 13: Due to overwhelming demand, following his captivating performance in The Oratory in August 2024, the acclaimed Irish singer-songwriter, Ultan Conlon returns. Known for his evocative lyrics and a voice reminiscent of the legendary Roy Orbison.
